Latest FAO Production Snapshot

The latest FAO year shows China far ahead of every other producer, with the United States and Türkiye forming the next tier. Poland, India, Italy, Iran, Russia, and France also remained major producers in the 2024 dataset.

Regional Production Patterns

The 2024 table shows a clear gap between China and every other producer. China's 51.3 million tonnes is more than ten times the United States total, so even small percentage changes in China have a large effect on the global balance.

• Asia: China remains the dominant producer, while India reached 2.63 million tonnes. Iran also stayed inside the top group with 2.35 million tonnes, although its recent series is more uneven than China's.
• Europe & Mediterranean: Türkiye produced 4.42 million tonnes, ahead of Poland at 3.38 million tonnes and Italy at 2.40 million tonnes. The 2026 estimates keep Türkiye above Poland, but the margin depends on how quickly Poland recovers from its weaker 2024 result.
• North America: The United States produced 4.92 million tonnes in 2024. Its recent data is less volatile than most European producers, which supports a relatively stable 2026 estimate.

Notable Mid-Tier Producers

France remained a major European producer with 1.96 million tonnes, while Uzbekistan and South Africa also stayed above one million tonnes. Algeria reached 591,698 tonnes and Afghanistan reached 333,838 tonnes, making both useful markets to watch outside the largest production clusters.

Risks & Yield Pressures

Apple output is sensitive to spring frost, heat stress, water availability, and pest pressure. These risks matter most in countries where production already moves sharply from year to year, so the 2026 method limits trend effects instead of extending a single strong or weak season too far.

2026 Outlook & Forecast Notes

The 2026 estimates point to a market that remains concentrated at the top. China is projected at 53.8 million tonnes, the United States at 5.18 million tonnes, and Türkiye at 4.50 million tonnes.
