The table lists 175 countries; 172 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 7,737,717 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

China produced 1.47 times as much as India: 2,536,975 tonnes against 1,722,779, while Pakistan ranks third with 561,108 tonnes, 1,161,671 tonnes behind India. The top two hold 55.0 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 561,108 and 292,406 tonnes respectively.

China was the largest fresh or chilled goat meat producer in the 2024 listed data with 2,536,975 tonnes, followed by India with 1,722,779 tonnes and Pakistan with 561,108 tonnes. Nigeria ranked fourth with 292,406 tonnes.

China holds 32.8 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 62.3 percent of the 7,737,717-tonne listed total.

Fresh or Chilled Goat Meat Production Rises 1.2 Percent from 2023 to 2024

The common reporter universe (172 countries with data in both years) edged from 7,648,738 tonnes to 7,737,717 tonnes between 2023 and 2024, a change of 88,979 tonnes (1.2 percent). The totals listed for each year were 7,648,776 tonnes (173 reporters) and 7,737,717 tonnes (172 reporters); 1 country reporting in 2023 (37.25 tonnes, Nicaragua) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. India added 133,839 tonnes (up 8.4 percent), while China fell 66,199 tonnes (down 2.5 percent) and Mongolia 35,933 tonnes (down 36.0 percent).

Fresh or Chilled Goat Meat Production Rises 12.9 Percent Among Common Reporters Since 2020

Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (172 countries with data in both years) rose from 6,855,712 tonnes to 7,737,717 tonnes, a change of 882,005 tonnes (12.9 percent). The totals listed for each year were 6,860,256 tonnes (175 reporters) and 7,737,717 tonnes (172 reporters); 3 reporters present in 2020 (largest: Palestine, 4,487 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while no new reporters joined. India added 510,229 tonnes (up 42.1 percent), accounting for 57.9 percent of the increase, while China added 124,675 tonnes (up 5.2 percent).

Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
