Other Meat of Mammals; Fresh or Chilled Production by Country
China overtook Russia in 2024, while Russia's production declined by 10,932 tonnes. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Other meat of mammals; fresh or chilled, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 38 countries, all of which reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 1,568,583 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.
In 2024, China was the largest listed producer of other mammal meat at 503,060 tonnes, narrowly ahead of Russia at 500,914 tonnes. India ranked third with 194,190 tonnes. The 38 reporting countries recorded 1,568,583 tonnes in total, with China, Russia and India accounting for 76.4 percent of the listed production.
China and Russia were separated by just 2,146 tonnes in 2024, with China reporting 503,060 tonnes and Russia 500,914 tonnes. Together, China and Russia accounted for 64.0 percent of the listed total. China was the largest other mammal meat producer in the 2024 listed data with 503,060 tonnes, followed by Russia with 500,914 tonnes and India with 194,190 tonnes. The DR Congo ranked fourth with 78,858 tonnes. China holds 32.1 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 76.4 percent of the 1,568,583-tonne listed total. From 2023 to 2024 the common reporter universe (38 countries with data in both years) moved from 1,576,502 tonnes to 1,568,583 tonnes, a change of -7,919 tonnes (-0.5 percent). The totals listed for each year were 1,576,502 tonnes (38 reporters) and 1,568,583 tonnes (38 reporters); no country exited and no new reporter joined. Russia fell 10,932 tonnes (down 2.1 percent), while China added 3,021 tonnes (up 0.6 percent) and India fell 1,707 tonnes (down 0.9 percent). Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (38 countries with data in both years) rose from 1,484,488 tonnes to 1,568,583 tonnes, a change of 84,095 tonnes (5.7 percent). The totals listed for each year were 1,484,488 tonnes (38 reporters) and 1,568,583 tonnes (38 reporters); no reporter present in 2020 is absent in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Russia added 52,412 tonnes (up 11.7 percent) and China 18,868 tonnes (up 3.9 percent), while India added 5,448 tonnes (up 2.9 percent). Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Other meat of mammals; fresh or chilled, 2020-2024. For other mammal meat production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 other mammal meat production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the other mammal meat production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For other mammal meat production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.

Frequently Asked Questions
When did China overtake Russia?
In 2023 Russia still led with 511,846 tonnes against China's 500,039 tonnes. In 2024 China reported 503,060 tonnes against 500,914 tonnes for Russia, a gap of 2,146 tonnes, so the overtake sits in the 2024 data.
What did Kazakhstan do without a rate attached?
Kazakhstan rose from 10 tonnes in 2023 to 335.47 tonnes in 2024, a change of 325.47 tonnes. The 2023 base sits below 1,000 tonnes, so no percent is attached; Kazakhstan reports in both years, so the climb sits inside the change universe.
Did the reporter set change at all?
No. The same 38 countries reported in 2020, 2023 and 2024, so both change universes equal the reporter set and the listed totals move only on reported quantities.
