Pears Consumption by Country

China accounted for 16,671,428 tonnes of pear food supply in 2023, or 78.9 percent of the listed total. The United States ranked second at 358,170 tonnes, followed by Italy at 306,572 tonnes. China also led per person, at 32.11 grams per day. Its supply increased by 477,278 tonnes in the latest year, while Italy's fell by 210,017 tonnes. These figures measure food available for human consumption rather than actual intake.

Which country consumes the most pears? China had the largest reported pear food supply in 2023, at 16,671,428 tonnes, representing 78.9 percent of the listed total across reporting countries. It also ranked first in per-person supply, at 32.11 grams per person per day, ahead of Belarus at 31.93 grams and Hong Kong at 23.14 grams. These figures measure food available for human consumption, not the amount actually eaten.

China Holds Four-Fifths

China led, 46.55 times the United States. Italy sat third at 306,572 tonnes, ahead of Argentina at 289,894 and India at 260,856. The top three held 82.1 percent of the 21,122,714-tonne total, and the top five 84.7 percent. Of all 175 countries in the file, 173 carried a 2023 value.

China Adds Most, Italy Falls

Across the 172 countries with reported values in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 1.1 percent, from 20,885,638 tonnes, a gain of 237,076. China added 477,278 tonnes, up 2.9 percent, exceeding the net rise alone. Italy shed 210,017 tonnes, down 40.7 percent. Vietnam added 58,984 tonnes, more than doubling from 44,492 tonnes. Ukraine shed 56,760 tonnes, down 57.9 percent. Belgium added 52,145 tonnes from 9,827. South Korea shed 51,183 tonnes, down 28.5 percent, while Portugal added 41,674 tonnes, more than tripling from 18,439 tonnes.

China Adds Millions Over Five Years

Among the 171 countries with reported values in both 2019 and 2023, supply grew 10.1 percent, from 19,181,960 tonnes, a gain of 1,940,704. China added 2,292,270 tonnes, up 15.9 percent, exceeding the net rise alone. Türkiye shed 110,118 tonnes, down 59.3 percent. Ukraine shed 96,848 tonnes, down 70.1 percent. Vietnam added 75,778 tonnes, nearly quadrupling from 27,698 tonnes. Belgium added 46,238 tonnes, nearly quadrupling from 15,734 tonnes. Argentina added 45,956 tonnes, up 18.8 percent. Two countries left over the period, against two arrivals.

Argentina Holds Fourth

Argentina sat fourth at 289,894 tonnes, adding 40,350 tonnes in the latest year. Russia, sixth at 219,087 tonnes, shed 76,890 over five years, down 26.0 percent. Germany, seventh at 187,897 tonnes, sits outside the per-person top ten. France, eighth at 176,528 tonnes, sits outside the per-person top ten as well.

Indonesia Holds Ninth

Indonesia sat ninth at 154,454 tonnes. Brazil closed the top ten at 139,236 tonnes.

China Leads Per Person Too

China's 32.11 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Belarus at 31.93 and Hong Kong at 23.14. Argentina ranked fourth at 17.44 grams, followed by Albania at 16.51 and Portugal at 15.79. Belgium reported 14.50 grams and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 14.48 grams, with Italy at 14.12 and Lebanon at 13.78. China therefore led by total volume as well as per person.
