Persimmons Consumption by Country
Persimmons mean China even more than most fruits: 3,755,825 tonnes, 80.6 percent of the listed consumption total. Russia followed at 204,623 tonnes and South Korea at 159,950, while South Korea led per person at 8.47 grams. The 2023 figures total 4,660,072 tonnes across 147 countries, 140 with values, covering food available for human consumption from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023.
China outconsumes Russia by 3,551,202 tonnes to lead 2023 Persimmons consumption. Second place belongs to Russia at 204,623 tonnes. South Korea is the per-person leader. South Korea recorded the sharpest latest-year decline, falling 16.4 percent.
Key Findings
In 2023, China had the world's largest reported persimmon food supply at 3,755,825 tonnes, accounting for 80.6 percent of the 4,660,072 tonnes reported across 140 countries with a value. Russia ranked second at 204,623 tonnes, while South Korea ranked third at 159,950 tonnes and had the highest per-person supply at 8.47 grams per person per day. The figures measure food available for human consumption, not the amount actually eaten.
Brazil placed fourth at 132,452 tonnes, with Vietnam fifth at 66,289 and Taiwan sixth at 62,233. Germany, Thailand, Pakistan and Israel closed the top ten between 18,462 and 43,371 tonnes. The top three held 88.4 percent of the annual listed consumption total, and the top five 92.7 percent. China had the highest listed food supply at 3,755,825 tonnes, while South Korea had the highest per-capita food supply at 8.47 grams per person. China added 180,003 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, up 5.0 percent to 3,755,825 tonnes. Vietnam added 59,981 tonnes from a small base. Russia added 13,798 tonnes, up 7.2 percent. Germany added 12,375 tonnes, up 39.9 percent. South Korea lost 31,403 tonnes, down 16.4 percent. Kazakhstan shed 23,088 tonnes, down 68.9 percent. Azerbaijan gave up 13,922 tonnes, down 58.6 percent. Israel fell 7,778 tonnes, down 29.6 percent. The 140 countries present in both years rose from 4,441,200 tonnes to 4,660,072 tonnes, up 218,872 tonnes, or 4.9 percent, with no entries or exits. Between 2019 and 2023, the 123 countries present in both years climbed from 3,932,073 tonnes to 4,640,430 tonnes, up 708,357 tonnes, or 18.0 percent. China added 742,683 tonnes, up 24.6 percent, accounting for 104.8 percent of the net gain. Vietnam added 64,899 tonnes from a tiny base. Russia added 58,095 tonnes, up 39.6 percent. Taiwan added 26,617 tonnes, up 74.7 percent. Ukraine went from 44,481 tonnes in 2019 to a reported zero in 2023. FAO lists zero for Ukraine in 2023 after 44,481 in 2019; zeros after large values are worth checking against the source. Uzbekistan likewise reports zero for 2023 after 23,314 in 2019. South Korea lost 67,573 tonnes, down 29.7 percent. Germany shed 8,960 tonnes, down 17.1 percent. Six countries left with a single tonne, against 17 arrivals with 19,642. South Korea's 8.47 grams a day beat Taiwan's 7.31 in second and China's 7.23 in third. Israel sat fourth at 5.46 grams, with Belarus at 3.93 and Russia at 3.85. Azerbaijan, Latvia, Estonia and Switzerland followed below 2.7 grams. China pairs first-place tonnage with third-place daily intensity. Korea eats its smaller harvest fastest. Persimmons for human consumption are counted in tonnes and daily grams per person for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. Vietnam's 4,669.0 percent five-year rate divides by 1,390 tonnes and means start-up, not orchard growth. Ukraine and Uzbekistan vanish from sixth and ninth places, the two zeroes this file will be remembered for. FAO Supply Utilization Accounts record tonnage for human consumption as element 5141 and daily grams per person as element 665, shown for persimmons over 2019-2023. Percentages use the earlier year as the base. Percentages are not calculated when the earlier value is zero. The universe counts 147 countries after aggregates are removed, 140 with 2023 values. Only countries with values at both endpoints enter comparisons. The 2023 listed total of 4,660,072 tonnes is the sum of every country with a 2023 value. A reported zero is kept, a blank is missing, and values below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimal places.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
Who trails South Korea per person?
South Korea clearly led persimmons per person in 2023, just above second-placed Taiwan at 7.31 grams with China next at 7.23 grams a day overall.
How Chinese is the table?
Overwhelmingly Chinese: China alone held 80.6 percent of the annual listed consumption total, and the top three together reached 88.4 percent of reported supply overall.
How much did China add lately?
China alone added 180,003 tonnes, up by 5.0 percent in the latest year, four-fifths of the net latest reported gain in the file overall.
Is this what people actually ate?
No. The figures measure food available for human consumption in the reference year, not actual intake, so eaten amounts stay below supply in every case.
Which zeroes matter most?
Ukraine went from 44,481 tonnes in 2019 to a reported zero in 2023, and Uzbekistan from 23,314 to a reported zero, the two top-ten exits.
