Potash production by country measures how much potash each country mines, expressed in tonnes. The figures refer to mine production of potash, in terms of K2O equivalent, in line with the underlying sources. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for the earlier years (2020-2024), built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table covers 12 countries, all with individual 2025 estimates from the source, which produced a combined 48,350,000 tonnes in 2025; together with the "Other countries" value of 350,000 tonnes, this totals 48,700,000 tonnes, below the reported World total of 49,000,000 tonnes in the source.
Largest Potash-Producing Countries in 2025
Canada produced the most potash in 2025 with 15,000,000 tonnes. Russia ranked second with 10,000,000, followed by China (6,300,000), Belarus (6,000,000), Germany (3,000,000), Laos (2,400,000), Israel (2,000,000), Jordan (1,800,000), Chile (600,000), and the United States (500,000).
Potash Production by Country
Canada alone accounted for about 31 percent of the World total in 2025, and Canada and Russia together for about 51 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 64 percent. Canada's output was about 1.5 times that of Russia. Four countries produced at least 5 million tonnes in 2025.
Potash Production Around the World
In North America, Canada (15,000,000) is the largest producer, ahead of the United States (500,000). In South America, Chile (600,000) leads, ahead of Brazil (300,000).
In Europe, Russia (10,000,000) leads, ahead of Belarus (6,000,000), Germany (3,000,000), and Spain (450,000). In Asia, China (6,300,000) leads, ahead of Laos (2,400,000). In the Middle East, Israel (2,000,000) leads, ahead of Jordan (1,800,000).
Largest Changes in Potash Production, 2024-2025
Belarus recorded the largest increase, rising from 5,000,000 tonnes in 2024 to 6,000,000 in 2025 (up 1,000,000, about 20 percent). Canada rose from 14,400,000 to 15,000,000 (up 600,000, about 4 percent), Germany from 2,500,000 to 3,000,000 (up 500,000, about 20 percent), the United States by 90,000 (about 22 percent), Jordan by 70,000, and Chile by 36,000.
Israel recorded the largest decline, falling from 2,260,000 to 2,000,000 tonnes (down 260,000, about 11 percent). Spain fell from 489,000 to 450,000 (down 39,000, about 8 percent), Brazil by 31,000 (about 9 percent). China (6,300,000), Russia (10,000,000), and Laos (2,400,000) held their levels.
The World total rose from 46,700,000 to 49,000,000 tonnes (up 2,300,000, about 4.9 percent). Belarus contributed 1,000,000 tonnes of the increase, about 43 percent of it.
The 2024 figures in this release are revised from earlier values, most notably Belarus (revised down from 7,000,000 to 5,000,000 tonnes), Laos (up from 1,500,000 to 2,400,000), Russia (up from 9,000,000 to 10,000,000), and Germany (down from 3,000,000 to 2,500,000).

Methodology
The earlier figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national potash production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries, the USGS Historical Statistics for Mineral and Material Commodities, and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The earlier series covers 2020-2024. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026, where all 12 countries in the table are reported individually. Values refer to mine production of potash, in K2O equivalent, in tonnes, and 2025 figures are preliminary estimates from the source. The source reports production in thousand-ton units for 2024-2025; values here are expressed in tonnes. The sum of individually reported country estimates does not equal the reported World total because the source applies rounding and other adjustments at the country and World levels. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
