Methodology

Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Shorn wool; greasy; including fleece-washed shorn wool, 2020-2024. For greasy shorn wool production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 greasy shorn wool production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the greasy shorn wool production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For greasy shorn wool production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

How did China grow while the total fell since 2020?

China added 30,857 tonnes (up 9.2 percent) against a common-universe fall of 30,371 tonnes (down 1.8 percent). New Zealand fell 21,933 tonnes (down 14.9 percent) and Iran 13,196 tonnes (down 21.5 percent) in the same universe.

How many countries reported production in all three endpoint years?

The same 69 countries reported in 2020, 2023 and 2024, so both change universes equal the reporter set and the listed totals move only on reported quantities.

How much did Australia's production fall from 2023 to 2024?

Australia fell from 318,000 tonnes in 2023 to 281,000 tonnes in 2024, a change of -37,000 tonnes (down 11.6 percent). Australia reports in both years, so the fall sits inside the change universe and exceeds New Zealand's 6,231-tonne fall.
