Vegetable Products Fresh or Dry Consumption by Country

Germany recorded the largest reported food supply of fresh or dry vegetable products in 2023, at 22,995 tonnes, narrowly ahead of Saudi Arabia at 21,951 tonnes. Saudi Arabia ranked first per person, with 1.81 grams available per person per day. The figures represent food available for human consumption, not the amount actually eaten.

Germany Leads by Just 1,044 Tonnes

Germany led at 22,995 tonnes, 1.05 times Saudi Arabia. Iraq sat third at 7,737 tonnes, ahead of Italy at 6,764 and Iran at 5,971. The top three held 48.5 percent of the 108,521-tonne total, and the top five 60.3 percent. Canada, the Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan and Yemen closed the top ten between 2,485 and 5,263 tonnes. Of 122 countries in the table, 117 carried a 2023 value.

Saudi Arabia Surges as Italy Falls

Across the 117 countries in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 3.2 percent, from 105,190 tonnes, a gain of 3,331. Saudi Arabia added 16,273 tonnes from 5,678, the largest gain in the file. Italy shed 10,622 tonnes, down 61.1 percent from 17,386. Iran shed 2,501 tonnes, down 29.5 percent. Uzbekistan fell to zero from 2,329 tonnes; with a zero base, no percentage applies. The Netherlands shed 1,841 tonnes, down 29.5 percent. Germany shed 1,740 tonnes, while Iraq added 1,694 and Egypt 1,327 from zero. One country left the table.

Saudi Doubles Over Five Years

Among the 114 countries in both 2019 and 2023, supply grew 7.0 percent, from 101,429 tonnes, a gain of 7,092. Saudi Arabia added 11,570 tonnes from 10,381, exceeding the net rise alone. Italy shed 5,394 tonnes, down 44.4 percent. Nigeria fell to zero from 3,863 tonnes. The Netherlands added 3,067 tonnes, more than tripling from 1,326. Yemen added 2,205 tonnes from 280, one of the sharpest percentage rises in the file. Four countries left over the period, against three arrivals.

Saudi Arabia Leads Per Person Too

Saudi Arabia's 1.81 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Germany at 0.75 and the Netherlands at 0.67. Austria followed at 0.58 grams and Iraq at 0.55. Serbia sat at 0.49 grams. Germany, the volume leader, sat outside the per-person top three.

Methodology

For vegetable products, fresh or dry, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. The table contains 122 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 117 carry 2023 values. Per-capita figures are rounded separately from tonnage, so a displayed value of 0.00 grams does not necessarily mean that the underlying food supply was zero.
