Yautia Consumption by Country
FAO Supply Utilization Accounts record yautia available for human consumption, in tonnes and in grams per person per day, from 2019 through 2023. The file covers 46 reporters; 38 of them carry a 2023 value, adding to a listed total of 203,311 tonnes. Cuba reported the largest 2019 supply and nothing since — yet the table grew 21.8 percent, led by Venezuela.
Venezuela reported the largest 2023 supply at 84,590 tonnes, while El Salvador recorded the highest per-capita figure at 19.12 grams per person per day. The common total moved from 164,516 tonnes to 200,384, up 35,868 tonnes or 21.8 percent across 28 reporters. Cuba reported 97,900 tonnes in 2019, the largest supply that year, and nothing in 2023. Venezuela added 17,396 tonnes (up 25.9 percent), 48.5 percent of the net increase, with the Dominican Republic adding 16,690 (up 61.2 percent), Mexico 7,456 (up 736.0 percent), the United States 4,184 (up 90.8 percent) and El Salvador 4,007 (up 10.0 percent); Costa Rica fell 7,519 (down 82.5 percent), Nicaragua 6,202 (down 78.3 percent) and Peru 1,072 (down 47.6 percent). Five reporters left with 97,925 tonnes between them; ten entered with 2,927. Venezuela's 84,590 tonnes top the 2023 table at 41.6 percent of the listed total, 1.92 times El Salvador's 44,036 in second. The Dominican Republic follows at 43,951 with the United States at 8,793; the top three hold 84.9 percent, the top five 93.4 percent and the top ten 98.8 percent. Mexico, Panama, Vietnam, Trinidad and Tobago, Nicaragua and Costa Rica complete the ten. Per person, El Salvador stands first at 19.12 grams — second by volume and first per person — with the Dominican Republic at 10.63, Venezuela at 8.19, Trinidad and Tobago at 3.18, Panama at 1.88, Saint Lucia at 1.59, Costa Rica at 0.85, Nicaragua at 0.69, Antigua and Barbuda at 0.34 and Mexico at 0.18 behind. The common total moved from 212,746 tonnes to 200,449, down 12,297 tonnes or 5.8 percent across 36 reporters. Nicaragua fell 10,895 tonnes (down 86.4 percent), with Mexico down 3,366 (down 28.4 percent), Venezuela down 1,596 (down 1.9 percent) and Panama down 470 (down 13.3 percent); the United States added 1,911 (up 27.8 percent), the Dominican Republic 1,739 (up 4.1 percent), Costa Rica 130 (up 8.9 percent) and El Salvador 97 (up 0.2 percent). Denmark and Vietnam entered with 2,862 tonnes between them; none left. The FAO item covers yautia, not taro and not yams, which have their own articles; the three are not added together here. Food supply quantity captures what was available for human consumption during the reference year. The gram-per-day figure spreads that availability across the population on a daily basis. Venezuela had the largest 2023 listed yautia supply at 84,590 tonnes, while El Salvador had the highest per-capita figure at 19.12 grams per person per day. The 2023 listed total was 203,311 tonnes across 38 reporters, up 21.8 percent on a common-reporter basis since 2019. These figures record food available for human consumption, not amounts actually eaten. Forty-six reporters sit in this file, each holding a value in at least one year from 2019 through 2023, and the tables print reporters only. World, regional and China (aggregate) rows are excluded; China here is the China reporter. Percentages anchor on the earlier endpoint year across reporters present in both years, with no percentage from a zero base and small-base percentages read against the base. FAO Supply Utilization Accounts food supply quantity underlies both measures for yautia: element 5141 in tonnes for totals, element 665 in grams per capita per day, 2019 to 2023. Counted is supply available for human consumption in the reference year, not intake. Zero reports zero; blank reports nothing. The 2023 listed total of 203,311 tonnes sums the 38 reporters with a 2023 value, in tonnes as published. Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
How did the table grow after losing its 2019 leader?
Cuba's 97,900 tonnes left while Venezuela added 17,396 and the Dominican Republic 16,690, lifting the common total 21.8 percent. The figures record each move without attributing causes.
How can El Salvador rank second and first?
El Salvador reported 44,036 tonnes against 19.12 grams a day, second by volume and first per person. The per-capita figure expresses the reported food supply relative to population on a daily basis.
What drove the latest-year decline?
Nicaragua fell 10,895 tonnes (down 86.4 percent), most of the 12,297-tonne net decrease; Mexico, Venezuela and Panama fell smaller amounts. The figures record the size, not the cause.
