Bauxite Production by Country
Bauxite production by country measures how much bauxite ore each country mines, expressed in tonnes. The figures refer to mine production of bauxite ore, in line with the underlying sources, and are not the same as alumina or aluminum production. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for 2018-2023, built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table below lists 33 countries that record bauxite production in the period. 2025 figures are available individually for 13 countries, which produced a combined 432,960,000 tonnes in 2025; together with the "Other countries" value of 8,000,000 tonnes, this is slightly above the reported World total of 440,000,000 tonnes because of source-level rounding and adjustments. Canada, Germany, Ireland, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates are listed in the source without values, and the United States is withheld (W). Most other countries retain their latest available Our World in Data figures, mostly from 2023.
Countries With the Largest Bauxite Production in 2025
Guinea produced the most bauxite in 2025 with 150,000,000 tonnes. Australia ranked second with 97,000,000, followed by China (87,000,000), Brazil (33,000,000), India (25,000,000), and Indonesia (10,000,000). Jamaica (6,200,000), Russia (5,700,000), Saudi Arabia (5,700,000), and Kazakhstan (4,800,000) complete the top ten.
Bauxite Production by Country
Guinea alone accounted for about 34 percent of the World total in 2025, and Guinea and Australia together for about 56 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 76 percent. Guinea's output was about 1.5 times that of Australia. Five countries produced at least 25 million tonnes in 2025.
Bauxite Production Around the World
In Africa, Guinea (150,000,000) leads by a wide margin, ahead of Ghana (959,601, 2023) and Ivory Coast (155,000, 2023).
In Asia, China (87,000,000) leads, ahead of India (25,000,000) and Indonesia (10,000,000). Kazakhstan (4,800,000) and Vietnam (3,800,000) follow; Iran (598,599, 2023) is in the Middle East, alongside Saudi Arabia (5,700,000 in 2025).
In Europe, Türkiye (3,800,000) is the largest producer, ahead of Greece (960,000). Bosnia and Herzegovina (548,160), Montenegro (526,523), and France (120,000) follow with 2023 data.

In Oceania, Australia (97,000,000) is the dominant producer, ahead of Fiji and the Solomon Islands, which reported no output in the period. Canada, Germany, Ireland, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates are listed in the source without values, and the United States is withheld.
Largest Changes in Bauxite Production, 2024-2025
Guinea recorded the largest increase, rising from 142,000,000 tonnes in 2024 to 150,000,000 in 2025 (up 8,000,000, about 5.6 percent). China rose from 80,500,000 to 87,000,000 (up 6,500,000, about 8.1 percent), Jamaica by 310,000, Russia by 230,000, Saudi Arabia by 200,000, Türkiye by 140,000, Indonesia by 100,000, and Vietnam by 90,000.
Australia recorded the largest decline, falling from 100,000,000 to 97,000,000 tonnes (down 3,000,000, about 3 percent). Greece fell by 10,000 to 960,000 tonnes. India (25,000,000) and Brazil (33,000,000) held their levels.
The World total rose from 428,000,000 to 440,000,000 tonnes (up 12,000,000, about 2.8 percent), and Guinea alone accounted for about 67 percent of that increase. The source's value for countries not listed individually rose from 7,780,000 to 8,000,000 tonnes.
The 2024 figures in this release are revised from earlier values, most notably Indonesia (revised down from 32,000,000 to 9,900,000 tonnes), China (down from 93,000,000 to 80,500,000), Vietnam (down from 4,200,000 to 3,710,000), Guinea (up from 130,000,000 to 142,000,000), and Türkiye (up from 3,200,000 to 3,660,000).

Methodology
The 2018-2023 figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national bauxite production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries, the USGS Historical Statistics for Mineral and Material Commodities, and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 where available; countries not reported individually keep their latest Our World in Data figures, mostly from 2023. Values refer to mine production of bauxite ore, in tonnes; the USGS reports its 2024-2025 estimates on a dry-ton basis. These figures measure the ore stage: bauxite ore mined is not the same as alumina (refined ore) or primary aluminum (smelted metal), which are separate stages. The source lists the United States with a withheld figure (W), and Canada, Germany, Ireland, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates without values. The sum of individually reported country estimates may differ from the reported World total because country-level estimates and the World total are subject to source-level rounding and adjustments. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which country produces the most bauxite in 2025?
Guinea produced the most bauxite in 2025 with 150,000,000 tonnes, followed by Australia (97,000,000) and China (87,000,000).
How many countries are included in the dataset?
The table lists 33 countries that record bauxite mine production in the period. 2025 figures are available individually for 13 of them from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026, while most of the rest report their latest available Our World in Data figures, mostly from 2023.
What does this indicator measure?
It measures bauxite ore mine production in tonnes (dry basis in the recent USGS data), at the ore stage; alumina refining and aluminum smelting are separate measures.
Which country produces the least bauxite among those with 2025 data?
Greece recorded the smallest 2025 output at 960,000 tonnes. Among countries reporting 2023 data, Mozambique recorded the smallest at 10,000 tonnes.
Why is the United States not shown?
The source lists a withheld figure (W) for the United States to avoid disclosing company proprietary data.
Why were the 2024 figures revised?
The USGS revises its prior-year estimates in each new release; this release revises Indonesia down (32,000,000 to 9,900,000 tonnes), China down (93,000,000 to 80,500,000), Vietnam down (4,200,000 to 3,710,000), Guinea up (130,000,000 to 142,000,000), and Türkiye up (3,200,000 to 3,660,000).
What is the difference between bauxite, alumina, and aluminum?
Bauxite is the ore, alumina is the refined oxide produced from bauxite, and aluminum is the metal smelted from alumina. This statistic measures the first step, bauxite ore; alumina and aluminum are reported separately in this dataset family.
