Methodology
Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products stocks quantity (Element 5111) for item Buffalo, 2020-2024. For buffalo stocks, quantities are shown as whole head. The 2024 buffalo stocks ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the buffalo stocks data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For buffalo stocks changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Stocks record the standing herd, not a production flow. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
Frequently Asked Questions
How did Venezuela more than double since 2020?
Venezuela rose from 990,000 head in 2020 to 2,011,237 head in 2024, a change of 1,021,237 head (up 103.2 percent). Venezuela reports in both years, so the doubling sits inside the change universe.
Which reporters hold only zeros at the edges?
Sweden reported zero in 2020 and the Netherlands reported zero in 2024, with neither reporting in the other year. Zero means a reported nil flow rather than a gap, so each counts in one endpoint year only.
Why did Nepal fall by more than a third since 2020?
Nepal fell from 5,257,591 head in 2020 to 3,307,031 head in 2024, a change of -1,950,560 head (down 37.1 percent). Nepal reports in both years, so the fall sits inside the change universe.
