Refined cadmium production by country shows how much refined cadmium is produced in each country, measured in tonnes. The figures refer to refinery production of cadmium metal, in line with the underlying sources. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for the earlier years (2020-2024), built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table covers 16 countries, all with individual 2025 estimates from the source, which produced a combined 23,160 tonnes in 2025, slightly above the reported World total of 23,000 tonnes in the source.
Largest Cadmium-Producing Countries in 2025
China produced the most refined cadmium in 2025 with 9,500 tonnes. South Korea ranked second with 4,300, followed by Canada (1,300), Japan (1,300), Kazakhstan (1,100), Mexico (1,000), Russia (1,000), Australia (600), Peru (600), and the Netherlands (600).
Refined Cadmium Production by Country
China alone accounted for about 41 percent of the World total in 2025, and China and South Korea together for about 60 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 66 percent. China's output was about 2.2 times that of South Korea. Seven countries produced at least 1,000 tonnes in 2025.
Refined Cadmium Production Around the World
In Asia, China (9,500) leads, ahead of South Korea (4,300), Japan (1,300), Kazakhstan (1,100), and Uzbekistan (230). In Europe, Russia (1,000) leads, ahead of the Netherlands (600), Norway (430), Poland (400), Bulgaria (380), and Germany (220).
In North America, Canada (1,300) is the largest producer, ahead of Mexico (1,000) and the United States (200). In South America, Peru (600) is the only listed producer. In Oceania, Australia (600) is the only listed producer.
Largest Changes in Refined Cadmium Production, 2024-2025
China recorded the largest increase, rising from 8,900 tonnes in 2024 to 9,500 in 2025 (up 600, about 7 percent). Germany rose from 130 to 220 (up 90, about 69 percent), Norway by 80 (about 23 percent), Uzbekistan by 60, the United States by 20, Poland by 18, and the Netherlands by 8. Bulgaria rose by 1 tonne. Canada (1,300), South Korea (4,300), Russia (1,000), and Kazakhstan (1,100) held their levels.
The largest decline came from Japan, falling from 1,580 to 1,300 tonnes (down 280, about 18 percent). Mexico fell from 1,190 to 1,000 (down 190, about 16 percent), Peru by 64, and Australia by 1 tonne.
The World total rose from 22,800 to 23,000 tonnes (up 200, about 1 percent); the World total is reported separately from the country figures in the source.
Where the earlier series provided a 2024 value, the revisions are visible: Canada was revised down from 1,700 to 1,300 tonnes, Japan down from 1,700 to 1,580, Mexico down from 1,200 to 1,190, Australia down from 900 to 601, China down from 9,300 to 8,900, and the Netherlands up from 400 to 592.

The earlier figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national refined cadmium production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The earlier series covers 2020-2024. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026, where all 16 countries in the table are reported individually. Values refer to refinery production of cadmium metal, in tonnes, and 2025 figures are preliminary estimates from the source. The sum of individually reported country estimates does not equal the reported World total because the source applies rounding and other adjustments at the country and World levels. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
