Cashew Nuts Consumption by Country
The Philippines' 129,451 tonnes top the listed cashew-nuts consumption total in 2023 — 36.1 percent of 358,392 tonnes across 122 reporters — after falling 43.7 percent in five years. Guinea-Bissau went from zero in 2022 to 35,537 tonnes, fourth place outright. The latest year added 10.3 percent as the Philippines rebounded 10.1 percent; five years netted down 1.9 percent. Guinea-Bissau tops per person at 45.21 grams a day.
The Philippines' 2023 cashew-nuts figure of 129,451 tonnes stands 2.08 times Indonesia's 62,335, with Colombia third at 58,050. Guinea-Bissau's 45.21 grams a day head the per-person order, ahead of the Philippines at 3.09 and Colombia at 3.04. The Philippines opens the 2023 table at 129,451 tonnes (36.1 percent of 358,392), Indonesia at 62,335 and Colombia at 58,050. Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique follow at 35,537 and 22,938 tonnes. The top three hold 69.7 percent, the top five 86.0 percent and the top ten 96.2 percent. Guinea-Bissau's per-person figure of 45.21 grams a day comes from fourth place by volume, with the Philippines at 3.09 and Colombia at 3.04 behind. The 113 reporters present in both 2019 and 2023 moved from 365,221 tonnes to 358,258 — down 6,962 tonnes, or 1.9 percent. Nine reporters with 131 tonnes between them left, led by Guatemala at 87.21 tonnes, while nine entered with 134 — led by Guinea at 50.89 tonnes. The Philippines fell 100,419 tonnes (down 43.7 percent) while Indonesia added 54,868 (up 734.8 percent); Colombia added 51,738 (up 819.7 percent) and Tanzania fell 41,696 (down 77.6 percent), with Guinea-Bissau adding 32,400 from 3,137 tonnes, Mozambique falling 6,159 (down 21.2 percent), Sierra Leone adding 2,785 from zero and Mexico falling 2,732 (down 80.7 percent). The 121 reporters present in both 2022 and 2023 moved from 325,030 tonnes to 358,390 — up 33,360 tonnes, or 10.3 percent, with El Salvador entering at 1.88 tonnes and none leaving. Guinea-Bissau added 35,537 tonnes from zero and the Philippines 11,878 (up 10.1 percent), while Colombia fell 19,713 (down 25.4 percent); Tanzania added 10,906 (up 988.8 percent) and DR Congo fell 9,093 tonnes to 0.13, with Indonesia adding 5,430 (up 9.5 percent), Burkina Faso falling 1,640 (down 64.2 percent) and Germany adding 1,274 from 2.86 tonnes. Cashew nuts in shell stand as their own FAO item — apart from other nuts, which never enter these figures. Counted is food available for human consumption in the reference year; daily grams per person slice the same supply by population. The Philippines' 129,451 tonnes were the largest 2023 listed cashew-nuts consumption total — 36.1 percent of 358,392 tonnes across 122 reporters. Indonesia followed at 62,335 and Colombia at 58,050 tonnes. Guinea-Bissau had the highest per-capita figure at 45.21 grams per person per day. What is counted is food available for human consumption, not cashew nuts actually eaten. In short, the Philippines had the largest listed cashew-nuts consumption total in 2023, while Guinea-Bissau ranked first per person despite placing fourth by total tonnes. Every percentage here divides by the earlier endpoint year, across reporters holding values in both years. FAO Supply Utilization Accounts supply the tonnes (element 5141, food supply quantity) and the daily grams per person (element 665) — for cashew nuts in shell, 2019 through 2023. Supply available for human consumption in the reference year is what gets counted, not intake. Zero-base years yield no percentage; a zero reports zero and a blank reports nothing. The tables admit reporters only — 135 of them held a value in at least one year from 2019 through 2023 — with World, regional and China (aggregate) rows left out; China is the China reporter. Tonnes stand as FAO published them, unrounded, and the 2023 listed total of 358,392 tonnes adds the 122 reporters with a 2023 value. What made Guinea-Bissau jump from zero to fourth?
Guinea-Bissau reported zero in 2022 and 35,537 tonnes in 2023. The figures record the arrival without identifying what caused it.
How did the Philippines fall 43.7 percent and still lead?
The Philippines fell from 229,870 tonnes in 2019 to 129,451 in 2023 — down 100,419 tonnes — while staying 2.08 times Indonesia. The figures describe the slide and the lead without explaining either.
How can Guinea-Bissau rank first per person with the fourth-largest total?
Guinea-Bissau's 35,537 tonnes work out to 45.21 grams a day per person, the highest figure shown. The volume ranking reflects total tonnes, while the per-person ranking adjusts the same figure for population.
