United States Rises to the Top
The United States led at 191,494 tonnes, 8.29 times Russia, after having no 2019 value in the file. Taiwan sat third at 5,397 tonnes, ahead of Kyrgyzstan at 1,743 and Belarus at 594. The top three held 98.5 percent of the 223,344-tonne total, and the top five 99.5 percent. Barbados, Seychelles, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Eswatini closed the top ten between 82 and 298 tonnes. Of 33 countries in the file, 26 carried a 2023 value.
Across the 22 countries in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 3.8 percent, from 213,422 tonnes, a gain of 8,149. Russia added 7,188 tonnes, up 45.2 percent, nearly all of the net rise. Taiwan added 1,035 tonnes, up 23.7 percent. The United States added 531 tonnes. Lesotho fell to zero from 466 tonnes; with a zero base, no percentage applies. Belarus shed 133 tonnes, down 18.2 percent. Barbados added 73 tonnes back. Eswatini shed 56 tonnes, down 40.8 percent. Tajikistan added 38 tonnes from a zero base overall. Two countries left the table, against four arrivals. Among the 10 countries in both 2019 and 2023, supply fell 74.8 percent, from 115,858 tonnes, a loss of 86,637. Congo fell to near zero from 63,620 tonnes, the largest fall in the file. FAO lists near zero for Congo in 2023 after 63,620 in 2019; zeros after large values are worth checking against the source. Russia shed 22,583 tonnes, down 49.4 percent. Ukraine fell to zero from 3,628 tonnes. Taiwan added 3,414 tonnes, up 172.2 percent from 1,983. Seychelles added 127 tonnes over five years. Sixteen countries joined over the period, adding 194,123 tonnes, led by the United States. Taiwan sat third at 5,397 tonnes, adding 1,035 in the latest year and 3,414 from 1,983 over five. Per person, Taiwan sat at 0.63 grams. Belarus, fifth at 594 tonnes, shed 133 lately. Barbados, sixth at 298 tonnes, added 73 in the latest year and sits at 2.89 grams per person. Seychelles' 5.21 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Barbados at 2.89 and the United States at 1.53. Grenada followed at 1.08 grams and Kyrgyzstan at 0.68. Taiwan sat at 0.63 grams per person. Guyana sat at 0.37 grams and Trinidad and Tobago at 0.23. Russia, second by volume, sat at 0.43 grams per person. This page follows the SUA item labelled Cassava leaves and counts only its rows; World, regional and aggregate rows are not in the table. The 2023 listed total is 223,344 tonnes and includes the 26 countries with a reported 2023 value. Food here means supply available for people to eat in the reference year, not amounts eaten. In 2023, the United States had the largest reported cassava leaf food supply at 191,494 tonnes, accounting for 85.7 percent of the listed country total. Russia ranked second at 23,089 tonnes and Taiwan third at 5,397 tonnes. Seychelles had the highest food supply per person at 5.21 grams per person per day. Across the 22 countries with values in both 2022 and 2023, supply increased 3.8 percent, while the 10 countries with values in both 2019 and 2023 recorded a 74.8 percent decline. These figures represent food available for human consumption, not actual food eaten. For cassava leaves, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. The file holds 33 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 26 carry 2023 values. A newcomer leads after a total exit over five years. The numbers describe food available for human consumption. Source: FAO FAOSTAT, compiled by StatsGeo.Russia Grows, Lesotho Exits
