Chromium production by country measures how much chromium each country produces, expressed in thousand metric tons. The figures follow the definitions used in the underlying sources. The statistics are based on USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table below lists 7 countries, each reporting mine production, with 2024 and 2025 data available for all 7. The United States is not shown because its production figures are withheld to avoid disclosing company proprietary data, and other countries are aggregated as "Other countries" in the source and are not listed separately. The figures are as reported for mine production, and 2025 figures are estimates from the source.
South Africa produced the most chromium in 2025 with 23,000 thousand metric tons. Türkiye ranked second with 9,000, followed by Kazakhstan (7,000), India (3,000), Brazil (2,000), Zimbabwe (2,000), and Finland (1,900). Among the 7 countries with available 2025 data, South Africa accounted for about 48 percent of the reported production values, and South Africa and Türkiye together accounted for about 67 percent. Only South Africa produced more than 20,000 thousand metric tons in 2025. In Africa, South Africa (23,000 thousand metric tons) is the dominant producer, ahead of Zimbabwe (2,000). In Asia, Türkiye (9,000) and Kazakhstan (7,000) are the main producers, followed by India (3,000). In Europe, Finland (1,900) is the leading listed producer, while other countries are aggregated in the source. In the Americas, Brazil (2,000) is the largest producer, while the United States figures are withheld. Kazakhstan recorded the largest increase, rising from 6,100 thousand metric tons in 2024 to 7,000 in 2025 (up 900). South Africa dominates, holding near 23,000 thousand metric tons in both years.
