FAO Supply Utilization Accounts record flour, meal, powder, flakes, granules and pellets of potatoes available for human consumption, in tonnes and in grams per person per day, from 2019 through 2023. The file covers 172 reporters; 169 of them carry a 2023 value, adding to a listed total of 1,197,176 tonnes. China holds the largest 2023 supply by a distance — nearly half the table on its own.

China reported the largest 2023 supply at 582,073 tonnes, while Norway recorded the highest per-capita figure at 10.22 grams per person per day.

Five Points From a Highly Concentrated Table

• China holds 48.6 percent of supply — 9.10 times second-placed India.
• The United States fell 99.9 percent in a single year, from 15,794 tonnes to 20.62 tonnes.
• India rose 411.5 percent and Saudi Arabia 864.3 percent, both from small bases.

China Holds 48.6 Percent

China's 582,073 tonnes top the 2023 table at 48.6 percent of the listed total, 9.10 times India's 63,976 in second. The top three hold 59.2 percent with Malaysia at 62,328, the top five 67.0 percent and the top ten 77.9 percent. Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Bangladesh, Norway and Saudi Arabia complete the ten.

The United States Fell 99.9 Percent in a Year

The five-year common total moved from 1,106,416 tonnes to 1,197,174, up 90,757 tonnes or 8.2 percent across 166 reporters. The United States reported 15,794 tonnes in 2022 and 20.62 tonnes in 2023, a fall of 15,773 tonnes or 99.9 percent. Russia went further, from 10,644 tonnes to a reported zero. South Africa slid 12,520 tonnes (down 98.0 percent) across the five years. The other direction belongs to small bases: India added 51,468 tonnes (up 411.5 percent), Saudi Arabia 17,520 (up 864.3 percent), Malaysia 15,248 (up 32.4 percent), Norway 14,271 (up 225.9 percent) and Poland 9,725 (up 51.3 percent). India and China account for 56.7 and 37.2 percent of the net increase; Germany's 27,426-tonne fall offsets 30.2 percent of it. Cuba, Kiribati and Saint Lucia left the comparison with 113 tonnes between them.

2022 to 2023: Down 0.8 Percent

The common total moved from 1,206,303 tonnes to 1,197,176, down 9,128 tonnes or 0.8 percent across 169 reporters, with none entering or leaving. India added 34,679 tonnes (up 118.4 percent) and Germany 15,569 (up 64.6 percent), while China gave back 21,004 (down 3.5 percent) and Italy 4,609 (down 8.8 percent); Saudi Arabia added 6,783 (up 53.1 percent) and Norway fell 6,400 (down 23.7 percent).

Norway Leads per Person From Ninth Place

Norway's 10.22 grams per person per day head the per-capita table from 20,587 tonnes, ninth by volume: the per-capita value divides the reported total by population. Malaysia pairs second per person (4.86 grams) with third by volume, and Italy ninth per person (2.20) with fourth by volume. Oman, Denmark, Eswatini, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lebanon and Greece fill out the per-person ten, none of them inside the volume ten.

What Does Potato Flour Supply Cover?

The FAO item covers flour, meal, powder, flakes, granules and pellets made from potatoes — milled and dried forms, not the raw tuber, which has its own article; the two are not added together here. Food supply quantity captures what was available for human consumption during the reference year. The gram-per-day figure spreads that availability across the population, so Norway can head the per-person list from under 21,000 tonnes.
