Edible Offals of Horses and Other Equines, Fresh, Chilled or Frozen Consumption by Country
China ranked first in 2023, with 25,987 tonnes of edible offal from horses and other equines available for human consumption, or about 27.4 percent of the listed total. Kazakhstan ranked second at 16,596 tonnes, followed by Mexico at 13,378 tonnes. Mongolia had the highest reported daily supply per person, at 8.01 grams. The listed 2023 total was 94,977 tonnes, and 72 of the 84 country rows reported a value for that year, 65 of them above zero. These figures measure food available for human consumption, not actual intake.
Mongolia placed fourth by volume at 10,034 tonnes, and the three leading countries together accounted for about 58.9 percent of the listed 2023 total. Mongolia lost 1,189 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 10.6 percent to 10,034 tonnes. Kyrgyzstan lost 927 tonnes, down 21.3 percent, and Argentina shed 280 tonnes, down 10.9 percent. Brazil added 414 tonnes, up 10.1 percent, China added 470 tonnes, up 1.8 percent, and Kazakhstan added 1,001 tonnes, up 6.4 percent. The 70 countries with a value in both years eased from 96,345 tonnes to 94,976 tonnes, down 1,369 tonnes, or 1.4 percent, with Ecuador and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines joining and none leaving. Between 2019 and 2023, the 63 countries with a value in both years rose from 80,248 tonnes to 94,163 tonnes, up 13,915 tonnes, or 17.3 percent. China recorded the largest increase, adding 10,616 tonnes, up 69.1 percent. Kazakhstan added 3,515 tonnes, up 26.9 percent, and Brazil added 1,418 tonnes, up 45.8 percent. France recorded the largest decline, losing 1,903 tonnes, down 80.0 percent, while Mexico shed 1,210 tonnes and Argentina gave up 556 tonnes. Nine countries entered the comparison with 2023 values and no 2019 value, while ten left it. Mongolia recorded 8.01 grams a day in 2023, ahead of Kazakhstan at 2.24 grams in second and Kyrgyzstan at 1.33 grams in third. Iceland sat fourth at 1.15 grams. Edible offal of horses and other equines, fresh, chilled or frozen, available for human consumption is recorded in tonnes and in grams per person per day for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only, and the listed total is not a world figure that includes regional aggregates. Total tonnage shows the scale of reported food supply, while grams per person per day adjust the figures for population size. Seven countries reported zero tonnes in 2023, including Ghana after 201.22 tonnes in 2022, Ireland after 179.14 tonnes and Uruguay after 240.45 tonnes, so those drops warrant a source check. A reported zero is a recorded value and a blank cell is missing data, so the twelve rows without a 2023 value cannot be read as zero supply. The data come from FAOSTAT Supply Utilization Accounts, using element 5141 for food supply quantity in tonnes and element 665 for food supply quantity in grams per capita per day, for edible offals of horses and other equines, fresh, chilled or frozen, over 2019-2023. Of the 84 country rows, 72 reported a value in 2023 and 65 of those were above zero. Comparisons between two years use only countries with values at both endpoints, which gives 70 countries for 2022-2023 and 63 for 2019-2023, and the country count and both totals come from that shared set. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base and are not calculated when the base-year value is zero. Reported zeros are kept as values, blank cells are treated as missing data, and values under 1,000 tonnes are shown to two decimal places.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
How much horse offal did China supply in 2023?
China reported 25,987 tonnes, about 27.4 percent of the total reported by countries with 2023 data, ahead of Kazakhstan and Mexico by volume that year.
Which country leads per-capita horse offal supply?
Mongolia ranked first at 8.01 grams per person per day, ahead of Kazakhstan at 2.24 grams and Kyrgyzstan at 1.33 grams in the 2023 figures.
Did reported supply increase over five years?
The total for the 63 countries reporting in both 2019 and 2023 rose by 17.3 percent, from 80,248 tonnes to 94,163 tonnes over that period.
Why do some countries show zero supply?
A reported zero is different from a blank value, which means no data is available, and a sharp change from a positive amount should be checked against the original source.
Which country recorded the largest annual decline?
Mongolia lost 1,189 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 10.6 percent to 10,034 tonnes, the largest decline by tonnage among the reporting countries that year.
