Garnet Production by Country
Garnet production by country measures how much garnet each country mines, expressed in tonnes. The figures refer to mine production of garnet (industrial grade), in line with the underlying sources. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for 2020-2023, built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table below lists 7 countries that record garnet production in the period. 2025 figures are available individually for 6 countries, which produced a combined 727,900 tonnes in 2025, slightly below the reported World total of 730,000 tonnes because of source-level rounding and adjustments. South Africa is reported at 40,000 tonnes for 2024 but has no individual 2025 value.
Countries With the Largest Garnet Production in 2025
Australia produced the most garnet in 2025 with 350,000 tonnes. China ranked second with 280,000, followed by the United States (77,000), India (15,000), Czechia (4,000), and Pakistan (1,900).
Garnet Production by Country
Australia alone accounted for about 48 percent of the World total in 2025, and Australia and China together for about 86 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 97 percent. Australia produced 25 percent more garnet than China. Only two countries produced more than 200,000 tonnes in 2025.
Garnet Production Around the World
In Oceania, Australia (350,000) is the dominant producer. In Asia, China (280,000) leads, ahead of India (15,000) and Pakistan (1,900).
In North America, the United States (77,000) is the largest producer. In Europe, Czechia (4,000) is the only listed producer. In Africa, South Africa (40,000, 2024) reported its last available figure in 2024.
Largest Changes in Garnet Production, 2024-2025
China recorded the largest increase, rising from 250,000 tonnes in 2024 to 280,000 in 2025 (up 30,000, about 12 percent). The United States rose from 74,200 to 77,000 (up 2,800, about 3.8 percent), and Australia from 348,000 to 350,000 (up 2,000).
South Africa was no longer reported individually in 2025 after recording 40,000 tonnes in 2024. India (15,000), Czechia (4,000), and Pakistan (1,900) held their levels.
South Africa's missing 2025 value more than offset the increases recorded by China, the United States, and Australia among the individually reported countries, and the World total fell from 734,000 to 730,000 tonnes (down 4,000, about 0.5 percent).
The 2024 figure for South Africa is revised down sharply from the earlier series value (180,000 to 40,000 tonnes), while China's 2024 figure is revised down (310,000 to 250,000) and Australia's down (390,000 to 348,000).

Methodology
The 2020-2023 figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national garnet production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries, the USGS Historical Statistics for Mineral and Material Commodities, and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 where available; South Africa is listed for 2024 without a 2025 value. Values refer to mine production of garnet (industrial grade), in tonnes, and 2025 figures are preliminary estimates from the source. The sum of individually reported country estimates may differ from the reported World total because country-level estimates and the World total are subject to source-level rounding and adjustments. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which country produces the most garnet in 2025?
Australia produced the most garnet in 2025 with 350,000 tonnes, followed by China (280,000) and the United States (77,000).
How many countries are included in the dataset?
The table lists 7 countries that record garnet mine production in the period. 2025 figures are available individually for 6 of them from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026; South Africa is listed with a 2024 value and no 2025 value.
What does this indicator measure?
It measures industrial-grade garnet mine production in tonnes, based on mined production, as in the underlying sources.
Which country produces the least garnet among those with 2025 data?
Pakistan recorded the smallest 2025 output at 1,900 tonnes.
Why does South Africa have no 2025 figure?
The source reports South Africa for 2024 (40,000 tonnes) and lists no 2025 value, so the cell remains empty.
Why were the 2024 figures revised?
The USGS revises its prior-year estimates in each new release; this release revises South Africa down sharply (180,000 to 40,000 tonnes), China down (310,000 to 250,000), and Australia down (390,000 to 348,000).
