Jojoba Oil Consumption by Country

Tanzania dominated the 2023 jojoba oil food supply table with 123,085 tonnes, accounting for 97.8 percent of the 125,887-tonne listed total. The Netherlands ranked second with 1,748 tonnes and Belgium third with 265 tonnes. FAO reports no 2023 per-person series for jojoba oil, and the figures represent food available for human consumption rather than actual intake.

A One-Country Table

Tanzania led at 123,085 tonnes, 70.41 times the Netherlands. The top three held 99.4 percent of the 125,887-tonne total, and the top five 99.6 percent, so the remaining eighty countries with a 2023 value split four-tenths of a percent. Germany sat fourth overall at 228 tonnes and Norway fifth at 76, ahead of South Korea at 61. Norway added 54 tonnes over the latest year. Of 87 countries in the file, 85 carried a 2023 value.

Tanzania Adds Seventy-Seven Thousand

Across the 62 countries in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 163.9 percent, from 46,885 tonnes, a gain of 76,863. Tanzania added 77,748 tonnes, up 171.5 percent, exceeding the net rise on its own. Belgium shed 168 tonnes, down 38.7 percent, and Portugal 105. Luxembourg fell 99.2 percent to near zero, and Sweden 99.6 percent to near zero. The United Kingdom, Poland and France all fell to zero from sizable readings. Twenty-three countries joined in the latest year, adding 2,139 tonnes, against one departure.

From Nothing in Three Years

Tanzania reported nothing in 2019 through 2021, then 45,337 tonnes in 2022 and 123,085 in 2023; with no 2019 base, no five-year percentage applies. The Netherlands and Germany likewise appeared from nowhere, at 1,748 and 228 tonnes. Norway rose from 22 to 76 tonnes in the latest year. Belgium eased from no 2019 reading to 265 tonnes in 2023. The file's growth is almost entirely a Tanzanian story told in two years.

Europe's Crumbs

Behind Tanzania, Europe divided the crumbs: the Netherlands far ahead of Belgium at 265, Germany at 228 and Denmark at 57. Belgium shed 168 tonnes in the latest year, while the United Kingdom, Poland and France all fell to zero from readings near 160, 93 and 92. Luxembourg and Sweden faded to near zero as well. The continent that dominates the country count holds barely two percent of the volume.

Twenty-Three New Faces

Twenty-three countries joined in the latest year, adding 2,139 tonnes, with Denmark at 57, Chile at 27 and Trinidad and Tobago at 22 leading the smallest arrivals. Australia, Comoros, India, Bulgaria and New Zealand each added under 20 tonnes. The newcomers' volume would rank second on its own, yet trails Tanzania by a factor of fifty-eight. One country left against the twenty-three arrivals.

What Jojoba Oil Covers

This page follows the SUA item labelled Jojoba oil and counts only its rows; World, regional and aggregate rows are not in the table. The annual listed supply total sums the countries with a 2023 value. FAO's per-capita series for this item ends before the window, so no 2023 grams-per-day figure exists for any country. Food here means supply available for people to eat in the reference year, not amounts eaten.

Methodology

For jojoba oil, tonnage follows element 5141 across 2019 to 2023. FAO's element 665 per-capita series has no reported value for this item in the period. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. The file holds 87 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 85 carry 2023 values, and none carries a 2023 per-person value. One country holds nearly all volume while dozens share crumbs. The numbers describe food available for human consumption. Source: FAO FAOSTAT, compiled by StatsGeo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who led jojoba oil supply?

Tanzania, with 97.8 percent of the 2023 listed total, 70.41 times second-placed Netherlands, after adding 77,748 tonnes in the latest year alone, in an 85-country table.

How fast did supply grow?

Across 62 countries in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 163.9 percent from 46,885 tonnes, a gain of 76,863 driven by Tanzania alone, with 23 newcomers on top of that.

Who joined the table?

Twenty-three countries joined in the latest year, adding 2,139 tonnes, led by the Netherlands at 1,748 tonnes and Germany at 228, with Denmark next at 57, against a single departure.

Is there a per-person series?

No. FAO's per-capita series for jojoba oil ends before the window, so no 2023 grams-per-day figure exists for any of the 87 countries in the file.

Does this supply equal food eaten?

No. The figures measure food available for human consumption in the reference year, not actual intake, so they describe supply rather than the amounts people actually ate.
