China holds 33,707,532 tonnes of listed malted barley beer supply in 2023 — 19.3 percent of a 174,833,246-tonne total. The total fell in both windows, 2.8 percent in the latest year and 3.2 percent over five, with China down 2,140,742 tonnes over five years while nearly flat in the latest one. Russia added 234,108 tonnes in the latest year and 839,144 over five — the largest gain in the longer window — while India added 387,287 tonnes in the latest year. Botswana tops per person at 457.58 grams a day, 88.64 grams clear of the Czech Republic.

China sits top at 33,707,532 tonnes, 1.42 times the United States at 23,789,927, with Brazil third at 14,815,362 and Russia fourth at 8,581,915. Per person Botswana doubles most of the field at 457.58 grams a day from 414,241 tonnes, ahead of the Czech Republic at 368.94 and Lithuania at 305.09.

Both windows shrank on broad falls, with Brazil, the United States, Mexico and Vietnam down in the latest year and China, Vietnam, Brazil and the United States down over five. Russia added in both windows, while Cameroon fell 99.3 percent and Cuba exited at 72,050 tonnes.

The top three reporters hold 41.4 percent of the listed total, the top five 51.0 percent and the top ten 63.8 percent. Per person, Botswana's 457.58 grams a day from 414,241 tonnes tops the Czech Republic at 368.94 grams, with Lithuania at 305.09 behind. China, first by total, sits far down the per-person list at 64.92 grams.

Down 2.8 Percent in 2023 on Brazil's Fall

Across the 174 reporters with values in both 2022 and 2023, listed supply moved from 179,821,376 tonnes to 174,833,246 tonnes, down 4,988,130 tonnes or 2.8 percent. The two years share the same 174 reporters, with none entering or leaving. Brazil fell 1,777,963 tonnes (down 10.7 percent), the United States 1,012,760 (down 4.1 percent), Mexico 795,438 (down 8.7 percent), Vietnam 748,621 (down 19.7 percent), Germany 329,776 (down 4.2 percent) and the United Kingdom 316,948 (down 7.7 percent).

On the gaining side, India added 387,287 tonnes (up 15.4 percent) and Russia added 234,108 tonnes (up 2.8 percent). Brazil's fall from 16,593,325 to 14,815,362 tonnes is the largest absolute annual decline, while China's move from 33,694,370 to 33,707,532 tonnes held almost flat.

Five Years Down 3.2 Percent Against Russia's Gain

For the 173 reporters with values in both 2019 and 2023, listed supply fell from 180,522,494 tonnes to 174,833,246 tonnes, down 5,689,248 tonnes or 3.2 percent. The 2019 universe holds 175 reporters with values against 174 in 2023; Cuba and Kuwait left with a combined 72,255 tonnes, while the United Arab Emirates entered with a reported zero value. China fell 2,140,742 tonnes (down 6.0 percent), Vietnam 1,496,110 (down 33.0 percent), Brazil 1,245,279 (down 7.8 percent), the United States 1,010,400 (down 4.1 percent), Cameroon 599,997 (down 99.3 percent), Mexico 586,934 (down 6.6 percent) and the Philippines 556,510 (down 25.1 percent).

Russia added 839,144 tonnes (up 10.8 percent), rising from 7,742,771 to 8,581,915 tonnes for the largest five-year gain in the comparison.

Cameroon's fall came in one step, from 604,365 tonnes in 2019 to 5,053 in 2020, and its supply has stayed between 1,792 and 10,281 tonnes since, while Cuba's exit removed 72,050 tonnes from the 2019 baseline.

Year-to-year comparisons use reporters present in both endpoint years, with the earlier year as the percentage base. Totals are FAO Supply Utilization Accounts food supply quantity (element 5141, tonnes); per-capita figures are element 665 in grams per capita per day — both for beer of barley malted, 2019 through 2023. The elements count supply made available for human consumption over the reference period. A displayed zero means zero and a blank cell means no value was reported, and no percentage is shown where the base-year value is zero.
