The dataset covers 214 countries and territories with values from 2020 to 2025.

In Europe, Hungary (17.27 to 15.14 percent, minus 2.13 points), Lithuania (15.46 to 13.13 percent, minus 2.33 points), and Slovenia (20.52 to 18.60 percent, minus 1.92 points) recorded the largest declines.

Methodology

The statistics are based on the World Bank World Development Indicators dataset, indicator NV.IND.MANF.ZS (Manufacturing, value added as a share of GDP). The main comparison uses 2025 data where available, covering 132 of the 214 countries and territories in our dataset. For countries without a 2025 observation, the latest available year is noted where relevant, but earlier years are not substituted for missing 2025 values in the ranking. The indicator is expressed as a percentage, calculated in current prices and not adjusted for inflation. Currency conversion does not affect its value, since the numerator and denominator are expressed in the same currency. Changes are reported in percentage points, reflecting the difference between two shares. Missing observations are treated as missing, not as zero.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which country or territory has the largest manufacturing sector as a share of GDP?

Puerto Rico, a territory of the United States, recorded the largest manufacturing value added as a share of GDP in 2025 at 43.97 percent. Among countries, Ireland recorded the largest share at 33.93 percent, followed by Cambodia (29.02 percent).

How many countries are included in the dataset?

Our dataset includes 214 countries and territories. Of these, 132 have data available for 2025. Countries without a 2025 observation are not included in the 2025 ranking.

What does manufacturing value added as a share of GDP represent?

It represents the value that manufacturing contributes to a country's economy, expressed as a percentage of gross domestic product. A high share means manufacturing plays a large role in the economy, while a low share means other sectors, such as services or agriculture, dominate.

Why do some major economies not appear in the 2025 ranking?

The United States, Japan, Canada, and Türkiye do not have 2025 figures in this dataset. Their latest available observations are from earlier years (2021, 2024, 2022, and 2024 respectively), and earlier years are not substituted for missing 2025 values in the ranking.

Is a higher manufacturing share always better?

Not necessarily. A high share of manufacturing in GDP can reflect a strong industrial base, but it can also reflect weak growth in other sectors. Similarly, a declining share does not always mean manufacturing is shrinking, since the manufacturing sector may be growing more slowly than the rest of the economy.
