China remained the second-largest producer of fresh or chilled chicken meat in 2024, adding 550,000 tonnes from 2023, while Egypt increased production by 423,443 tonnes. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Meat of chickens; fresh or chilled, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 193 countries; 190 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 127,933,584 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

The United States produced 1.31 times as much as China: 20,176,637 tonnes against 15,350,000, while Brazil ranks third with 13,714,702 tonnes, 1,635,298 tonnes behind China. The top two hold 27.8 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 13,714,701.69 and 5,457,330 tonnes respectively.

In 2024, the United States was the largest producer of fresh or chilled chicken meat at 20,176,637 tonnes, followed by China at 15,350,000 tonnes and Brazil at 13,714,702 tonnes. The three countries together accounted for 38.5 percent of the 127,933,584 tonnes reported in the 2024 listed total.

Meat of Chickens; Fresh or Chilled Production by Country in 2024

The United States was the largest fresh or chilled chicken meat producer in the 2024 listed data with 20,176,637 tonnes, followed by China with 15,350,000 tonnes and Brazil with 13,714,702 tonnes. Russia ranked fourth with 5,457,330 tonnes.

The United States holds 15.8 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 38.5 percent of the 127,933,584-tonne listed total.

China Adds 550,000 Tonnes as Meat of Chickens; Fresh or Chilled Production Grows 2.9 Percent Among Common Reporters

From 2023 to 2024 the common reporter universe (190 countries with data in both years) moved from 124,280,330 tonnes to 127,933,584 tonnes, a change of 3,653,254 tonnes (2.9 percent). The totals listed for each year were 124,571,564 tonnes (192 reporters) and 127,933,584 tonnes (190 reporters); 2 countries reporting in 2023 (Nicaragua, 163,310 tonnes, and Austria, 127,924 tonnes) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. China added 550,000 tonnes (up 3.7 percent) and Egypt 423,443 tonnes (up 19.5 percent), while Brazil added 420,865 tonnes (up 3.2 percent).

United States Adds 1,362,373 Tonnes as Meat of Chickens; Fresh or Chilled Production Grows 7.9 Percent Among Common Reporters Since 2020

Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (189 countries with data in both years) rose from 118,021,774 tonnes to 127,400,644 tonnes, a change of 9,378,870 tonnes (7.9 percent). The totals listed for each year were 118,337,093 tonnes (192 reporters) and 127,933,584 tonnes (190 reporters); 3 reporters present in 2020 (largest: Nicaragua, 140,674 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while 1 new reporter added 532,940 tonnes (Romania). The United States added 1,362,373 tonnes (up 7.2 percent) and Russia 880,597 tonnes (up 19.2 percent), while China added 750,000 tonnes (up 5.1 percent).

Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Meat of chickens; fresh or chilled, 2020-2024. For fresh or chilled chicken meat production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 fresh or chilled chicken meat production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the fresh or chilled chicken meat production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For fresh or chilled chicken meat production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
