Meat of Geese, Fresh or Chilled Consumption by Country
China ranked first in fresh or chilled goose meat food supply in 2023, with 4,923,674 tonnes, or about 97.3 percent of the listed total. Poland ranked second at 24,215 tonnes, followed by Hong Kong at 17,006 tonnes. China also recorded the highest reported supply per person, at 9.48 grams a day. The listed 2023 total was 5,061,326 tonnes, and 105 of the 125 country rows reported a value for that year, 86 of them above zero. These FAO figures measure food available for human consumption, not the amount people actually ate.
Germany placed fourth by volume at 14,998 tonnes, and the three leading countries together accounted for about 98.1 percent of the listed 2023 total, with China alone supplying roughly 97.3 percent. Hungary lost 5,162 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 59.6 percent to 3,496 tonnes. Taiwan lost 3,825 tonnes, down 21.4 percent, and Germany shed 2,716 tonnes, down 15.3 percent. Hong Kong added 952 tonnes, up 5.9 percent, Egypt added 3,355 tonnes, up 47.9 percent, and China added 318,260 tonnes, up 6.9 percent. The 103 countries with a value in both years rose from 4,751,006 tonnes to 5,061,265 tonnes, up 310,259 tonnes, or 6.5 percent. That shared total sits 61 tonnes below the overall 2023 figure, the difference being the arrivals Congo and Kyrgyzstan, while Kuwait reported in 2022 but has no 2023 value. Between 2019 and 2023, the 89 countries with a value in both years rose from 2,701,879 tonnes to 5,060,911 tonnes, up 2,359,032 tonnes, or 87.3 percent. China recorded the largest increase, adding 2,354,523 tonnes, up 91.6 percent. Poland added 23,854 tonnes from 361.44 tonnes, and Hong Kong added 2,893 tonnes, up 20.5 percent. Hungary recorded the largest decline, losing 7,779 tonnes, down 69.0 percent, while Germany shed 6,051 tonnes, down 28.8 percent, and Ukraine gave up 3,875 tonnes, down 43.2 percent. Sixteen countries entered the comparison with 2023 values and no 2019 value, while seventeen left it. China recorded 9.48 grams a day in 2023, ahead of Hong Kong at 6.26 grams in second and Macau at 2.73 grams in third. Poland sat fourth at 1.71 grams, with Taiwan at 1.65 grams and Madagascar at 1.12 grams. Fresh or chilled goose meat available for human consumption is recorded in tonnes and in grams per person per day for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only, and the listed total is not a world figure that includes regional aggregates. Total tonnage shows the scale of reported food supply, while grams per person per day adjust the figures for population size. Nineteen countries reported zero tonnes in 2023, including Croatia, which fell from 146.26 tonnes in 2022, so that drop warrants a source check. A reported zero is a recorded value and a blank cell is missing data, so the twenty rows without a 2023 value cannot be read as zero supply. The data come from FAOSTAT Supply Utilization Accounts, using element 5141 for food supply quantity in tonnes and element 665 for food supply quantity in grams per capita per day, for meat of geese, fresh or chilled, over 2019-2023. Of the 125 country rows, 105 reported a value in 2023 and 86 of those were above zero. Comparisons between two years use only countries with values at both endpoints, which gives 103 countries for 2022-2023 and 89 for 2019-2023, and the country count and both totals come from that shared set. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base and are not calculated when that base is zero. Reported zeros are kept as values, blank cells are treated as missing data, and values under 1,000 tonnes are shown to two decimal places.

China ranked first in 2023, with about 97.3 percent of the listed total, while Poland ranked second and Hong Kong third by volume that year overall.
Which country ranked second by total supply?
Poland ranked second with 24,215 tonnes, followed by Hong Kong with 17,006 tonnes, far below the leading country's total in the 2023 table overall that year.
Which country ranked second in food supply per person?
Hong Kong ranked second at 6.26 grams per person per day, behind China at 9.48 grams, in the reported 2023 figures for that year overall.
Did goose meat food supply increase between 2022 and 2023?
The reported total increased, largely because China's reported supply rose by 318,260 tonnes, though the annual listed total and the common-country group cover different sets.
Do these figures represent actual consumption?
No. They measure food available for human consumption under FAO's food-supply accounting framework, not the amount actually eaten by individuals in any reporting country that year.
