Millet Exports by Country
Uzbekistan ranked fifth by export quantity but first by export value, with fewer tonnes than four other exporters yet a much higher reported value. The figures below aggregate FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral records for item Millet, 2020-2024, pairing export quantity in tonnes with export value in current US dollars. The table lists 110 countries; 69 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 listed quantity total is 407,874 tonnes. The 2024 country list for millet exports runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.
Ukraine was the largest millet exporter in the 2024 listed data with 112,563 tonnes, followed by India with 79,568 tonnes and the United States with 72,646 tonnes. France ranked fourth with 31,139 tonnes, ahead of Uzbekistan (25,680 tonnes), Tanzania (13,027 tonnes), Poland (9,968 tonnes) and Pakistan (8,497 tonnes). On export value, Uzbekistan led at 52,381,000 US dollars, ahead of India (38,093,000) and the United States (30,195,000). Uzbekistan placed fifth by quantity but first by value: its reported trade value per tonne, about 2,040 dollars, runs nearly nine times Ukraine's 235 dollars (52,381,000 dollars over 25,680 tonnes against 26,424,000 over 112,563). The ranking by tonnes and the ranking by dollars describe two different hierarchies here, and the gap reflects unit values inside the reported trade. Ukraine holds 27.6 percent of the listed 2024 total, only about 1.41 times India, so the lead is narrow. The top three together hold 64.9 percent, the top five 78.8 percent and the top ten 89.8 percent. France and Poland carry Western and Central Europe, while Türkiye (6,327 tonnes), Pakistan, India and Uzbekistan are among the leading Asian reporters, Tanzania is the largest African reporter in the listed 2024 data, and the United States stands alone in the Americas above 10,000 tonnes. Across the 66 countries reporting in both years, total exports rose from 389,619 tonnes in 2023 to 407,865 tonnes in 2024, a gain of 18,246 tonnes (4.7 percent). The totals listed for each year were 392,646 tonnes (82 reporters) and 407,874 tonnes (69 reporters). Ukraine added 43,472 tonnes (up 62.9 percent) and France 8,005 tonnes (up 34.6 percent), while Pakistan added 5,146 tonnes (from 3,351 to 8,497 tonnes) from a small base. India fell 23,486 tonnes (down 22.8 percent) and Türkiye 13,199 tonnes (down 67.6 percent). Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (58 countries with data in both years) fell from 423,265 tonnes to 407,748 tonnes, a change of -15,517 tonnes (-3.7 percent). The totals listed for each year were 489,126 tonnes (81 reporters) and 407,874 tonnes (69 reporters); 23 countries reporting in 2020 (65,861 tonnes combined, led by Russia with 42,962 tonnes) did not report in 2024. Uzbekistan added 16,900 tonnes (up 192.5 percent) and Tanzania 9,683 tonnes (from 3,344 to 13,027 tonnes) from a small base. The United States fell 27,512 tonnes (down 27.5 percent). Value comes first in the fine print for millet: export values are full current US dollars with no inflation adjustment, so the dollar ranking therefore reflects differences in reported value per tonne across exporters. Quantities underneath are FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral flows summed into yearly reporter totals for 2020-2024. Displayed quantities keep two decimals below 1,000 tonnes and whole tonnes above; values are full current US dollars, unadjusted for inflation. The 2024 millet exports ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities; values are not used for ranking. In the millet exports data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. The millet exports change uses overlapping reporters only; countries entering or leaving the listed set are shown separately. Partner-derived gap filling and food-aid additions can apply, and unreconciled bilateral pairs mean an export entry and its mirror import may not match.Millet Exports by Country in 2024

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Uzbekistan have the highest export value despite ranking fifth by quantity?
Uzbekistan reported 25,680 tonnes (fifth) and 52,381,000 US dollars (first) for 2024, about 2,040 dollars per tonne against Ukraine's 235. Dividing each country's own value by its own quantity for the same year produces the gap; the dataset observes reported values, not prices.
Does Russia's absence change the 2020 story?
Russia reported 42,962 tonnes in 2020 and 63,425 tonnes in 2021, then reported no quantity from 2022 through 2024. Its 2020 figure represented about 65 percent of the 65,861 tonnes from 23 reporters missing in 2024. Each-year totals therefore flatter 2020; the 3.7 percent common-universe decline compares only the 58 continuing reporters.
How should Pakistan's 153.6 percent rise be read?
Pakistan grew from 3,351 tonnes in 2023 to 8,497 tonnes in 2024, an increase of 5,146 tonnes. For millet, the percentage is read alongside the absolute gain because the starting quantity is small.
What does this millet exports series not show?
This dataset does not cover production, stocks, domestic use, or processing; it records reporter-level export quantities and values, so its comparisons stay on the export side.
