Oil of Maize Production by Country
China stayed the second-largest oil of maize producer while adding 10,700 tonnes between 2022 and 2023 and Brazil added 138,609 tonnes since 2019. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Oil of maize, 2019-2023, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 59 countries; 57 reported a 2023 quantity, and the 2023 annual listed total is 3,079,477 tonnes. The 2023 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.
The United States produced 1.97 times as much as China: 1,062,867 tonnes against 540,000, while Brazil ranks third with 306,786 tonnes, 233,214 tonnes behind China. The top two hold 52.1 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 306,786 and 86,800 tonnes respectively. The United States was the largest oil of maize producer in the 2023 listed data with 1,062,867 tonnes, followed by China with 540,000 tonnes and Brazil with 306,786 tonnes. South Africa ranked fourth with 86,800 tonnes. The United States holds 34.5 percent of the listed 2023 total. The top three together hold 62.0 percent of the 3,079,477-tonne listed total. From 2022 to 2023 the common reporter universe (57 countries with data in both years) moved from 3,053,515 tonnes to 3,079,477 tonnes, a change of 25,962 tonnes (0.9 percent). The totals listed for each year were 3,053,515 tonnes (57 reporters) and 3,079,477 tonnes (57 reporters); no country exited and no new reporter joined. China added 10,700 tonnes (up 2.0 percent) and Brazil 7,395 tonnes (up 2.5 percent), while Canada fell 9,600 tonnes (down 10.8 percent). Between 2019 and 2023, the common reporter universe (54 countries with data in both years) rose from 2,914,007 tonnes to 3,066,725 tonnes, a change of 152,718 tonnes (5.2 percent). The totals listed for each year were 2,915,249 tonnes (56 reporters) and 3,079,477 tonnes (57 reporters); 2 reporters present in 2019 (Slovakia, 1,242 tonnes, and Panama, a reported zero) are absent in 2023, while 3 new reporters joined (Austria, 11,286 tonnes, Myanmar, 1,466 tonnes, and Brunei, a reported zero). Brazil added 138,609 tonnes (up 82.4 percent) and Venezuela 26,838 tonnes (up 64.9 percent), while the United States fell 97,834 tonnes (down 8.4 percent). Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Oil of maize, 2019-2023. For oil of maize production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2023 oil of maize production ranking and shares use 2023 listed quantities. In the oil of maize production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For oil of maize production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
