India reported 6,520,506 tonnes of okra food supply in 2023, 71.6 percent of the listed total. Nigeria came second at 1,493,551 tonnes and Pakistan third at 173,896. Per person, Guyana led at 52.49 grams a day. India added 259,618 tonnes in the latest year, while Iraq shed 51,099. All figures count food available for human consumption, not actual intake.
India Dominates Okra Supply
India led the 2023 table with 6,520,506 tonnes, 4.37 times Nigeria's 1,493,551 tonnes. Pakistan ranked third at 173,896 tonnes, followed by Bangladesh at 96,018 and Egypt at 86,181. The top three countries accounted for 90.0 percent of the 9,101,423-tonne listed total, rising to 92.0 percent for the top five. Ivory Coast, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Cameroon and the United States completed the top ten. Of the 57 countries in the file, 54 reported a 2023 value.
Across the 53 countries with reported values in both 2022 and 2023, supply grew 2.6 percent, from 8,869,917 tonnes, a gain of 231,506. India added 259,618 tonnes, up 4.1 percent, exceeding the net rise alone. Iraq shed 51,099 tonnes, down 63.9 percent from 79,959. Nigeria added 24,289 tonnes. Ivory Coast added 19,369 tonnes, up 31.8 percent. Mexico shed 15,710 tonnes, down 45.8 percent. Niger added 13,675 tonnes, up 57.2 percent. Bangladesh added 10,792 tonnes, while Egypt shed 8,291. Sierra Leone first reported 0.15 tonnes in 2023; all other comparison countries reported values in both years. Among the 42 countries with reported values in both 2019 and 2023, supply grew 11.1 percent, from 8,046,588 tonnes, a gain of 890,746. India added 893,775 tonnes, up 15.9 percent from 5,626,731, more than the net rise. Pakistan added 101,982 tonnes, more than doubling from 71,914. Ivory Coast shed 64,705 tonnes, down 44.6 percent. Niger shed 45,505 tonnes, down 54.8 percent. Egypt added 37,363 tonnes, up 76.5 percent. Twelve countries first reported values in the window, adding 164,090 tonnes to the 2023 total, while Afghanistan reported 4.71 tonnes in 2019 with no later values. Guyana's 52.49 grams a day topped the per-person table, ahead of Nigeria at 17.96 and Fiji at 12.54. India followed at 12.42 grams. Qatar sat at 8.52 grams and Sri Lanka at 8.39. Pakistan, third by volume at 173,896 tonnes, sat at 1.92 grams per person. For okra, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. The file holds 57 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 54 carry 2023 values. The numbers describe food available for human consumption. Source: FAO FAOSTAT, compiled by StatsGeo.India's Gain Outweighs Iraq's Drop

Who led okra supply?
India, with 6,520,506 tonnes in 2023, or 71.6 percent of the listed total in the same table, 4.37 times Nigeria at 1,493,551 tonnes in the same listed table that year, with Pakistan third.
What moved the latest total?
India added 259,618 tonnes over the year, exceeding the 231,506-tonne net gain over the annual comparison period, while Iraq shed 51,099 against it in the same comparison group.
How did five years net out?
India added 893,775 tonnes over the period, more than the 890,746-tonne net gain over the five-year comparison period, with Pakistan adding 101,982 behind it in the same comparison group.
Who led per person?
Guyana, at 52.49 grams per person per day in 2023, ahead of Nigeria at 17.96 in the same listed table, with Fiji third at 12.54.
Does this supply equal food eaten?
No. The figures measure the reported food available for human consumption in the reference year, not the amount of okra actually eaten by individual people in each year.
