Quinoa Exports by Country
Peru and Bolivia both rebounded in 2024, but their longer-term paths differ: Peru was 5.8 percent above its 2020 level, while Bolivia was 21.1 percent below it. The figures below aggregate FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral records for item Quinoa, 2020-2024, pairing export quantity in tonnes with export value in current US dollars. The dataset contains 87 country records, with 2024 quantities reported for 63 of them, and the 2024 listed quantity total is 113,576 tonnes. Looking at both periods gives a clearer picture of how the two leading exporters have moved.
Peru was the largest quinoa exporter in the 2024 listed data with 53,950 tonnes, followed by Bolivia with 29,435 tonnes and Spain with 4,291 tonnes. India ranked fourth with 4,230 tonnes, ahead of Canada (3,959 tonnes), the Netherlands (3,720 tonnes), the United States (3,372 tonnes) and Germany (2,180 tonnes). Peru also led on export value at 133,718,000 US dollars, followed by Bolivia (84,552,000) and the Netherlands (12,239,000). The top two moved in opposite directions across the 2020-2024 comparison and together in the 2023-2024 comparison: between 2020 and 2024 Peru added 2,953 tonnes (up 5.8 percent) while Bolivia lost 7,879 tonnes (down 21.1 percent); between 2023 and 2024 both advanced, Peru by 9,312 tonnes (up 20.9 percent) and Bolivia by 3,777 tonnes (up 14.7 percent). Looking at both periods gives a clearer picture of how the two leading exporters have moved. Peru holds 47.5 percent of the listed 2024 total, about 1.83 times Bolivia; the top three together hold 77.2 percent, the top five 84.4 percent and the top ten 95.6 percent. Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador (515.97 tonnes) were the main Andean exporters; Spain, the Netherlands and Germany were among the larger European exporters; Canada and the United States covered North America; and India (4,230 tonnes) was the only Asian reporter above 1,000 tonnes. Across the 57 countries reporting in both years, total exports rose from 91,911 tonnes in 2023 to 113,563 tonnes in 2024, a gain of 21,652 tonnes (23.6 percent). The totals listed for each year were 92,307 tonnes (70 reporters) and 113,576 tonnes (63 reporters). India added 2,737 tonnes (from 1,493 to 4,230 tonnes) from a small base, alongside Canada with 1,753 tonnes (up 79.5 percent). Slovenia fell 409.43 tonnes (from 564.66 to 155.23 tonnes, down 72.5 percent) and Ecuador 287.38 tonnes (from 803.35 to 515.97 tonnes, down 35.8 percent). Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (57 countries with data in both years) fell from 119,739 tonnes to 113,575 tonnes, a change of -6,164 tonnes (-5.1 percent). The totals listed for each year were 120,262 tonnes (73 reporters) and 113,576 tonnes (63 reporters). India added 3,616 tonnes (from 614.42 to 4,230 tonnes) from a small base. Canada fell 3,082 tonnes (down 43.8 percent) and France 846 tonnes (from 2,042 to 1,196 tonnes, down 41.4 percent). Small reporters keep two decimals in this table, so 564.66 tonnes stays 564.66, not 565, because rounding them away would discard information the source preserves. Yearly reporter totals sum FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral flows for quinoa exports, 2020-2024; values are full current US dollars without inflation adjustment. Displayed quantities keep two decimals below 1,000 tonnes and whole tonnes above; values are full current US dollars, unadjusted for inflation. The 2024 quinoa exports ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities; values are not used for ranking. In the quinoa exports data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. The quinoa exports change uses overlapping reporters only; countries entering or leaving the listed set are shown separately. Partner-derived gap filling and food-aid additions can apply, and unreconciled bilateral pairs mean an export entry and its mirror import may not match.Quinoa Exports by Country in 2024

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do Peru and Bolivia tell different stories by window?
Between 2020 and 2024 Peru added 2,953 tonnes (up 5.8 percent) while Bolivia lost 7,879 tonnes (down 21.1 percent); between 2023 and 2024 both grew (+9,312 and +3,777 tonnes). Looking at both periods is useful because Peru and Bolivia moved differently over the longer term than they did between 2023 and 2024.
How should India's rise be read without a percentage?
India reported 614.42 tonnes for 2020 and 4,230 tonnes for 2024, an increase of about 3,616 tonnes. A rate off a 614-tonne base would run near 590 percent while describing a mid-table volume, so the climb appears in absolute terms with both endpoints shown.
Why do small European falls carry exact decimals?
Slovenia fell from 564.66 to 155.23 tonnes and Ecuador from 803.35 to 515.97 tonnes, both below 1,000 tonnes, where this dataset keeps two decimals. Whole-tonne rounding would discard information the source preserves.
What does this quinoa exports series not show?
This dataset does not cover production, stocks, domestic use, or processing; it records reporter-level export quantities and values, so its comparisons stay on the export side.
