Skim Milk, Condensed Consumption by Country

The United States had the highest reported condensed skim milk food supply in 2023, at 699,846 tonnes, accounting for approximately 79.8 percent of the 877,492-tonne total across 45 countries with reported values. The United Kingdom ranked second at 127,547 tonnes, followed by Indonesia at 34,711 tonnes. The United States also recorded the highest food supply per person, at 5.58 grams per day. These figures measure food available for human consumption, not actual individual intake.

Skim Milk, Condensed Consumption

Spain placed fourth at 3,704 tonnes, with Canada fifth at 1,706 and Timor-Leste sixth. Mongolia, Sweden, Gambia and Guinea closed the top ten between 747 and 1,514 tonnes. The top three held 98.2 percent of the annual listed food supply total, and the top five 98.9 percent. The United States had the highest listed food supply, while the United States also had the highest per-capita food supply.

  • United States supply grows by 44,982 tonnes, up 6.9 percent, the biggest latest-year gain.
  • United Kingdom supply falls by 12,401 tonnes, down 8.9 percent, holding second.
  • Spain supply grows by 2,200 tonnes, up 146.3 percent, firming fourth place.
  • Timor-Leste reports supply in 2023, following a reported zero in 2022, landing sixth.

The United States Extends Its Lead in 2023

The United States added 44,982 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, up 6.9 percent to 699,846 tonnes. Spain added 2,200 tonnes, up 146.3 percent. Indonesia added 2,145 tonnes, up 6.6 percent. Timor-Leste added 1,523 tonnes from a zero base. The United Kingdom lost 12,401 tonnes, down 8.9 percent. Saudi Arabia went from 4,294 tonnes to a reported zero. Vietnam shed 1,373 tonnes, down 92.8 percent. Ghana went from 744 tonnes to a reported zero. The 41 countries present in both years rose from 845,641 tonnes to 877,354 tonnes, up 31,713 tonnes, or 3.8 percent, with one departure holding a single tonne and four arrivals with 138.

Reported Supply Edges Up Over Five Years

Between 2019 and 2023, the 29 countries present in both years inched from 860,121 tonnes to 874,944 tonnes, up 14,823 tonnes, or 1.7 percent. Indonesia added 8,056 tonnes, up 30.2 percent, accounting for 54.3 percent of the net gain. The United Kingdom added 7,192 tonnes, up 6.0 percent. Spain added 3,390 tonnes from 314. The United States gave up 3,722 tonnes, down 0.5 percent. Algeria went from 987 tonnes to a reported zero. Gabon went from 694 tonnes to a reported zero. Cameroon lost 646 tonnes, down 64.6 percent. Four countries left with 1,874 tonnes, against 16 arrivals with 2,547.

The United States Leads Both Supply Measures

The United States' 5.58 grams a day edged the United Kingdom's 5.09, with Timor-Leste third at 3.01 and Cyprus at 1.38. Mongolia sat fifth at 1.21 grams, with Gambia at 1.18 and Comoros at 0.39. Indonesia, Sweden and Spain followed below 0.4 grams. The United States therefore leads the table both by total food supply and by food supply per person.

What the Skim Milk, Condensed Data Covers

Condensed skim milk for human consumption is counted in tonnes and daily grams per person for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. The United States dominates the listed total.

Saudi Arabia fell to a reported zero in 2023 from 4,294 tonnes in 2022, and Ghana from 744 tonnes. Algeria fell to zero from 987 tonnes in 2019 and Gabon from 694 tonnes. Timor-Leste rose from 0.06 tonnes in 2019 to 1,523 tonnes in 2023; because the starting value was extremely small, no meaningful percentage is stated for that move. Several countries recorded zero supply in 2023 after reporting positive values in earlier years. These changes should be interpreted as reported data changes, not as proof that supply was literally zero in all circumstances. Blank entries indicate missing data and are not treated as zero.

Methodology

FAO Supply Utilization Accounts designate tonnage for human consumption as element 5141 and daily grams per person as element 665, shown for condensed skim milk across 2019-2023. Percentages rest on the earlier year, and zero bases rest on none. The dataset contains 50 countries minus aggregates, 45 with 2023 values. Only countries holding values at both endpoints enter comparisons. The 2023 listed total of 877,492 tonnes is the sum of the 45 countries with a 2023 value. A reported zero is kept, a blank is missing, and under-1,000 values keep two decimals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which country ranks second in condensed skim milk supply per person?

The United Kingdom ranked second in 2023 at 5.09 grams per person per day, behind the United States at 5.58 grams per day in the same table.

How much of the reported total came from the United States?

The United States accounted for approximately 79.8 percent of the 877,491.85 listed tonnes reported across the 45 countries with 2023 values in the same dataset.

Why did the total rise by 3.8 percent from 2022 to 2023?

Among the 41 countries with values in both years, the combined total increased by 31,713 tonnes, or 3.8 percent, from 845,641 to 877,354 tonnes. Changes in the reporting-country group are considered separately.

Does the table show how much condensed skim milk people actually consume?

No. The FAO indicator measures food available for human consumption in the reference year, not the quantity actually eaten or drunk by individuals in any country.

Why is Timor-Leste's five-year percentage change not a useful comparison?

Its reported quantity rose from 0.06 tonnes in 2019 to 1,523 tonnes in 2023. Because the starting value was extremely small, the calculated percentage is disproportionately large and can be misleading.
