The table lists 145 countries; 142 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 2,227,200,575 tonnes. The 2024 country list for primary sugar crops production runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

Brazil produced 1.68 times as much as India: 759,662,482 tonnes against 453,158,494, while China ranks third with 114,505,600 tonnes, 338,652,894 tonnes behind India. The top two hold 54.5 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 114,505,600 and 84,268,665 tonnes respectively.

Sugar Crops Primary Production by Country in 2024

Brazil was the largest primary sugar crops producer in the 2024 listed data with 759,662,482 tonnes, followed by India with 453,158,494 tonnes and China with 114,505,600 tonnes. Pakistan ranked fourth with 84,268,665 tonnes.

Brazil holds 34.1 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 59.6 percent of the 2,227,200,575-tonne listed total.

India Falls 37,374,857 Tonnes as Sugar Crops Primary Production Drops 2.9 Percent Among Common Reporters

From 2023 to 2024 the common reporter universe (142 countries with data in both years) moved from 2,294,417,906 tonnes to 2,227,200,575 tonnes, a change of -67,217,331 tonnes (-2.9 percent). The totals listed for each year were 2,301,382,742 tonnes (144 reporters) and 2,227,200,575 tonnes (142 reporters); 2 countries reporting in 2023 (Nicaragua, 6,964,837 tonnes, and Portugal, a reported zero) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. India fell 37,374,857 tonnes (down 7.6 percent) and Brazil 22,395,754 tonnes (down 2.9 percent), while Germany added 5,124,000 tonnes (up 16.2 percent) and Cuba 3,950,600 tonnes (up 77.5 percent).

India Adds 82,658,194 Tonnes as Sugar Crops Primary Production Grows 4.7 Percent Among Common Reporters Since 2020

Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (139 countries with data in both years) rose from 2,126,506,011 tonnes to 2,227,192,680 tonnes, a change of 100,686,669 tonnes (4.7 percent). The totals listed for each year were 2,133,498,551 tonnes (142 reporters) and 2,227,200,575 tonnes (142 reporters); 3 reporters present in 2020 (largest: Nicaragua, 6,992,541 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while 3 new reporters joined (largest: Syria, 6,090 tonnes). India added 82,658,194 tonnes (up 22.3 percent), accounting for 82.1 percent of the increase, while Russia added 12,765,091 tonnes (up 37.6 percent) and Germany 8,064,100 tonnes (up 28.2 percent).

For primary sugar crops production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
