Tantalum production by country shows how much tantalum is mined in each country, measured in tonnes. The figures refer to mine production in terms of tantalum content, in line with the underlying sources; this is the tantalum value of the mineral concentrates (coltan and other tantalum minerals) and not the gross weight of the ore. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for the earlier years (2020-2024), built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table covers 13 countries included in the underlying data during the period. USGS reports 2025 estimates for 11 countries, which produced a combined 2,485 tonnes in 2025, slightly below the reported World total of 2,500 tonnes in the source. Uganda (38 tonnes, 2020) and the United States (0 through 2022) retain earlier figures, and the earlier Our World in Data coltan series is a separate, ore-basis measure.

Largest Changes in Tantalum Production, 2024-2025

DR Congo recorded the largest increase, rising from 1,270 tonnes in 2024 to 1,300 in 2025 (up 30, about 2 percent). Rwanda rose from 374 to 400 (up 26, about 7 percent), China from 76 to 80 (up 4), and Russia from 29 to 30 (up 1). Nigeria (390), Ethiopia (40), Bolivia (2), and Burundi (2) held their levels.

Mozambique recorded the largest decline, falling from 55 to 1 tonne (down 54). Brazil fell from 210 to 190 (down 20, about 10 percent), and Australia from 52 to 50 (down 2). The World total held at 2,500 tonnes in both years.

The earlier figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national tantalum production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The earlier series covers 2020-2024. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 where available; Uganda and the United States keep their earlier figures. Values refer to mine production of tantalum content, in tonnes, and 2025 figures are preliminary estimates from the source. The sum of individually reported country estimates does not equal the reported World total because the source applies rounding and other adjustments at the country and World levels. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
