Tellurium Reserves by Country

The table contains 2024 tellurium reserve values for six countries, with no 2025 values reported. The figures come from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2019-2026 and represent estimated quantities that can be economically extracted. Reserves are a stock measure rather than the amount mined in a given year. The six listed countries held a combined 15,140 metric tons in 2024. USGS also reports 20,000 metric tons under “Other countries,” but does not assign that amount to individual countries.

Russia (5,800 metric tons for 2024) leads the United States (3,800), with the pair holding about 63.4% of the listed total between them. China (3,100), Canada (900), South Africa (800) and Sweden (740) follow — the bottom three within 160 of one another.

The top two countries hold about 63.4% of the listed 2024 reserves — nearly two-thirds in Russia and the United States.

2024 is the latest reported year

Every country's latest value is 2024: Russia 5,800, the United States 3,800, China 3,100, Canada 900, South Africa 800 and Sweden 740. The 2025 column is empty for all six countries, meaning no value was reported rather than zero.

China's long lead gives way to Russia

China reported 6,600 metric tons from 2018 through 2021, then cut its reported reserves to 3,000 in 2022, a 54.5% decline. Russia entered the series with 4,500 metric tons in 2023 and rose to 5,800 in 2024, moving into first place as China's value edged up to 3,100. Canada stayed at 800 through 2023 before reaching 900, while Sweden rose gradually from 670 to 740.

Methodology

Figures come from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2019-2026. Units are metric tons, exactly as reported. No 2025 values were published, so the latest year shown is 2024 and shares are computed against the 2024 listed total. Empty means the source reported no value; 0 means the source reports zero. Reserves and production are different measures and should not be combined without equalizing units.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are tellurium reserves?

Tellurium reserves are estimated quantities of tellurium that can be economically extracted under applicable conditions, in metric tons. Production measures the amount mined in a year.

Which countries hold the most tellurium reserves?

Russia (5,800 metric tons) and the United States (3,800) reported the largest 2024 values, followed by China (3,100).

Why is there no 2025 value?

The source published no tellurium reserves values for 2025; every country's latest value is 2024. An empty cell means not reported, not zero.
