Tungsten Production by Country

Tungsten production by country shows how much tungsten is mined in each country, measured in tonnes. The figures refer to mine production in terms of tungsten (WO3) content, in line with the underlying sources. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for the earlier years (2020-2024), built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table covers 25 countries included in the underlying data during the period. USGS reports 2025 estimates for 11 countries, which produced a combined 82,740 tonnes in 2025; together with the "Other countries" value of 2,400 tonnes, this totals 85,140 tonnes, which is 140 tonnes above the reported World total of 85,000 tonnes in the source. Kazakhstan appears with a 2025 value only (2,400 tonnes), and the United States retains its earlier zeros through 2022.

Largest Tungsten-Producing Countries in 2025

China produced the most tungsten in 2025 with 67,000 tonnes. Vietnam ranked second with 3,000, followed by Kazakhstan (2,400), Russia (2,000), North Korea (2,000), Bolivia (1,700), Rwanda (1,300), Australia (1,000), Austria (840), and Spain (800).

China alone accounted for about 79 percent of the World total in 2025, and China and Vietnam together for about 82 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 85 percent. China's output was about 22 times that of Vietnam. Five countries produced at least 2,000 tonnes in 2025.

Tungsten Production Around the World

In Asia, China (67,000) leads by a wide margin, ahead of Vietnam (3,000) and North Korea (2,000); Kazakhstan (2,400) is in Central Asia, and Mongolia (320, 2023) retains an older value. In Europe, Russia (2,000) is the largest producer, ahead of Austria (840), Spain (800), and Portugal (700); Ukraine and the United Kingdom retain older zero values.

In Africa, Rwanda (1,300) is the largest producer, ahead of DR Congo (236, 2023), Burundi (69, 2023), Nigeria (50, 2023), and Uganda (30, 2023). In South America, Bolivia (1,700) is the only listed producer; Brazil (284, 2023) retains an older value. In Oceania, Australia (1,000) is the only listed producer. The United States retains its earlier zeros through 2022, as the source lists it without a value.

Largest Changes in Tungsten Production, 2024-2025

Russia recorded the largest increase, rising from 1,500 tonnes in 2024 to 2,000 in 2025 (up 500, about 33 percent). Spain rose from 700 to 800 (up 100, about 14 percent), North Korea from 1,900 to 2,000 (up 100), Australia from 920 to 1,000 (up 80, about 9 percent), and Portugal from 650 to 700 (up 50, about 8 percent). Kazakhstan appears with a 2025 value of 2,400 tonnes after no reported 2024 value. China (67,000), Austria (840), Bolivia (1,700), and Rwanda (1,300) held their levels.

Vietnam recorded the largest decline, falling from 3,400 to 3,000 tonnes (down 400, about 12 percent).

The World total rose from 82,000 to 85,000 tonnes (up 3,000, about 4 percent); the World total is reported separately from the country figures in the source.

Where the earlier series provided a 2024 value, the revisions are visible: Russia was revised down from 2,000 to 1,500 tonnes, North Korea up from 1,700 to 1,900, Bolivia up from 1,600 to 1,700, Rwanda up from 1,200 to 1,300, Australia down from 1,000 to 920, Austria up from 800 to 840, and Portugal up from 500 to 650.

Methodology

The earlier figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national tungsten production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The earlier series covers 2020-2024. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 where available; countries not reported individually keep their latest available values from the earlier series, mostly from 2023. Values refer to mine production of tungsten content, in tonnes, and 2025 figures are preliminary estimates from the source. The source lists the United States without a value; its earlier zeros through 2022 are retained. The sum of individually reported country estimates does not equal the reported World total because the source applies rounding and other adjustments at the country and World levels. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
