Vermiculite Reserves by Country

Nothing in the vermiculite table moved in 2025 — all six values match 2024 exactly. The statistics below combine eight editions of the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries (2019-2026), with figures representing estimated quantities that can be economically extracted rather than the amount mined in a given year. Listed reserves totalled 61,100 metric tons in 2025.

Vermiculite Reserves by Country Map

The United States (25,000 metric tons) leads South Africa (14,000), with the pair holding about 63.8% of the listed total between them. Türkiye (11,000) is third after debuting in 2023, ahead of Brazil (6,600), China (2,900) and India (1,600).

Three series never changed

The United States, South Africa and India reported the same figures in all eight years shown: 25,000, 14,000 and 1,600 metric tons. Brazil changed only once, rising from 6,200 in 2019 to 6,600 in 2020 and remaining there through 2025.

Two changes reshaped the middle of the ranking

China reported 340 metric tons in 2022, then 2,900 in 2023 — more than an eightfold increase — and has remained at that level since. Türkiye entered the series at 11,000 in 2023, immediately taking third place. Those two changes account for most of the movement in the table, while the other four countries have been largely stable.

Methodology

Figures come from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2019-2026, with 2025 values estimated. Units are metric tons, exactly as reported. Empty means the source reported no value; 0 means the source reports zero. The source publishes no world total for reserves, so shares are computed against the sum of the listed countries. Reserves and production are different measures and should not be combined without equalizing units.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are vermiculite reserves?

Vermiculite reserves are estimated quantities of vermiculite that can be economically extracted under applicable conditions, in metric tons. Production measures the amount mined in a year.

Which countries hold the most vermiculite reserves?

The United States (25,000 metric tons), South Africa (14,000) and Türkiye (11,000) reported the largest 2025 values.

Which countries changed the most?

China reported 340 metric tons in 2022 before rising to 2,900 in 2023, while Türkiye entered at 11,000 that year. Brazil's only change was from 6,200 to 6,600 in 2020.

Who joined in 2023?

Türkiye at 11,000 metric tons — instantly third — while China leapt from 340 to 2,900.
