The table lists 177 reporters, 176 of which reported a 2023 quantity, and the 2023 annual listed consumption total is 544,299 thousand tonnes. China had the largest listed food supply in 2023 and added 4,241 thousand tonnes from 2022, while India added 1,676 thousand tonnes.

Between 2022 and 2023, the common reporter universe (176 countries with data in both years) rose from 536,558 thousand tonnes to 544,299 thousand tonnes, a change of 7,741 thousand tonnes (1.4 percent). Between 2019 and 2023, the common reporter universe (176 countries with data in both years) rose from 511,282 thousand tonnes to 544,299 thousand tonnes, a change of 33,017 thousand tonnes (6.5 percent). The totals listed for each year were 512,006 thousand tonnes (177 reporters) and 544,299 thousand tonnes (176 reporters); Cuba, with 724 thousand tonnes in 2019, had no reported quantity in 2023, and no new reporter joined. India added 12,235 thousand tonnes (up 14.7 percent), accounting for 37.1 percent of the increase, followed by China with 7,621 thousand tonnes (up 7.7 percent), Pakistan with 2,206 thousand tonnes (up 8.9 percent), the United States with 1,866 thousand tonnes (up 6.5 percent) and Iran with 1,215 thousand tonnes (up 9.6 percent).

Growth sits heavily in Asia: India, China and Pakistan together account for 66.9 percent of the 2019-2023 common-reporter increase. The per-capita leaders form a separate bloc across the Balkans, North Africa and the Middle East, with Azerbaijan at 205.61 and Tunisia at 194.74 kilograms per year, while the total-quantity leaders China and India record only 74.97 and 66.50 kilograms respectively. The 2022-2023 comparison includes the same 176 reporters in both years.

Yearly totals use FAO Food Balances food quantity (Element 5142, thousand tonnes), while the per-capita figures use food supply quantity (Element 645, kg/capita/year) for Wheat and products from 2019 through 2023. The food quantity represents the amount available for human consumption in the food balance, not the amount actually eaten. The reporter universe contains 177 reporters; the tables list reporters only (aggregate rows such as World, regions and China (aggregate) are not included), while China figures refer to the China reporter. Quantities of 1,000 thousand tonnes and above are shown as whole numbers; smaller quantities retain up to two decimal places. A zero indicates a displayed value of zero, while an empty cell indicates that no value is available for that reporter and year. For changes, only reporters with values in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. FAO Food Balances are compiled from national and other official sources.
