Whole Milk, Evaporated Consumption by Country

Peru recorded the largest listed food supply of evaporated whole milk at 494,734 tonnes, 20.0 percent of the listed consumption total. The Netherlands followed at 253,063 tonnes and the United States at 196,631, while Peru also led per person at 40.05 grams. The 2023 figures total 2,468,361 tonnes across 172 countries, 170 with values, covering food available for human consumption from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023.

The common-country total dipped 1.8 percent in the latest year but added 4.6 percent since 2019. Germany recorded the largest latest-year decline, while Yemen rose from zero to 60,000 tonnes.

Germany Records the Largest Decline

Germany lost 70,527 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 36.9 percent to 120,570 tonnes. Peru lost 42,467 tonnes, down 7.9 percent. Oman shed 23,441 tonnes, down 83.9 percent. The United States gave up 14,837 tonnes, down 7.0 percent. Yemen added 50,000 tonnes, up 500.0 percent to 60,000 tonnes. Iraq added 31,607 tonnes, up 579.6 percent. Libya added 27,695 tonnes, up 114.6 percent. Greece added 15,792 tonnes, up 12.4 percent. The 170 countries present in both years fell from 2,514,248 tonnes to 2,468,361 tonnes, down 45,887 tonnes, or 1.8 percent, with no entries or exits.

Yemen Appears in Five-Year Whole Milk, Evaporated

Between 2019 and 2023, the 167 countries present in both years grew from 2,359,245 tonnes to 2,468,361 tonnes, up 109,116 tonnes, or 4.6 percent. Germany lost 81,463 tonnes, down 40.3 percent. Haiti fell 47,659 tonnes, down 99.9 percent to 28 tonnes. Oman shed 45,503 tonnes, down 91.0 percent. Yemen added 60,000 tonnes from a zero base. The Emirates added 38,374 tonnes, up 2,360.0 percent. Peru added 37,684 tonnes, up 8.2 percent. Greece added 35,869 tonnes, up 33.4 percent. Libya added 25,032 tonnes, up 93.3 percent. Two countries left the reporting set, led by Cuba's 2,186 tonnes, while three countries appeared in 2023 after having no 2019 value.

Peru Leads Both Volume and Per-Person Tables

Peru's 40.05 grams a day edged the Netherlands' 38.32, with Greece third at 38.3 and Saint Kitts and Nevis at 27.24. Libya sat fifth at 19.45 grams, with Bahrain at 15.43 and Lithuania at 14.20. The Bahamas, Belarus and Hong Kong followed below 12.8 grams. Peru was the only country to lead both measures in 2023, ranking first in total listed supply and per-person supply.

What the Whole Milk, Evaporated Data Covers

Evaporated whole milk for human consumption is counted in tonnes and daily grams per person for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. The leader holds a fifth and doubles as the per-person champion, a rare convergence. Germany's exit from the upper ranks reshuffles the middle.

Haiti's 99.9 percent five-year fall ends at 28 tonnes, not zero, so it reads as retreat without a warning. Oman's 91.0 percent fall ends at 4,499 tonnes the same way. Yemen's increase is not given as a percentage because its 2019 value was zero. No reported zero followed a large value.

Methodology

FAO Supply Utilization Accounts designate tonnage for human consumption as element 5141 and daily grams per person as element 665, shown for evaporated whole milk across 2019-2023. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base; no percentage is calculated when that base is zero. The universe counts 172 countries minus aggregates, 170 with 2023 values. Only countries with values at both endpoints enter comparisons. The 2023 listed total is the sum of every country with a 2023 value. A reported zero is kept, a blank is missing, and under-1,000 values keep two decimals.
