Methodology
Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Wine, 2019-2023. For wine production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2023 wine production ranking and shares use 2023 listed quantities. In the wine production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For wine production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
Frequently Asked Questions
How did France grow while the table fell in both windows?
France added 156,698 tonnes (up 3.4 percent) in 2023 and 520,018 tonnes (up 12.3 percent) since 2019. France reports in all three endpoint years, so both gains sit inside their change universes while the totals fell 11.6 percent and 9.8 percent.
Where did Syria go in 2023?
Syria reported 50 tonnes in 2019 and nothing in 2023. Blank cells mean not reported rather than zero, so the country sits outside the 2019-2023 change universe while shaping the 2019 listed total.
Who are the new reporters since 2019?
Seven, led by Algeria with 10,968 tonnes, Madagascar with 7,708 tonnes and Venezuela with 1,971 tonnes, all in 2023. Blank cells mean not reported rather than zero, so the group sits outside the 2019-2023 change universe.
