Arsenic production by country measures how much arsenic each country produces, expressed in tonnes. The figures refer to mine production of arsenic, reported as metallurgical byproduct/byproducts in the underlying sources. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for 2020-2023, built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table below lists 7 countries that record arsenic production in the period. 2025 figures are available individually for 5 countries, which produced a combined 60,500 tonnes in 2025, while the World total in the source stands at 61,000 tonnes. Japan is listed in the source without a 2025 value, and the United States is listed with no reported value, which is why those cells are empty.

Countries With the Largest Arsenic Production in 2025

Peru produced the most arsenic in 2025 with 30,000 tonnes. China ranked second with 24,000, followed by Morocco (5,000), Belgium (1,000), and Russia (500).

Peru alone accounted for about 49 percent of the World total in 2025, and Peru and China together for about 89 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 97 percent. Peru's output was about 1.25 times that of China. Only two countries produced more than 10,000 tonnes in 2025.

Arsenic Production Around the World

In South America, Peru (30,000) is the largest producer, ahead of Bolivia (40 tonnes, 2022). In Asia, China (24,000) leads, ahead of Japan (40 tonnes, 2024). In Africa, Morocco (5,000) is the only listed producer. In Europe, Belgium (1,000) leads, ahead of Russia (500).

Largest Changes in Arsenic Production, 2024-2025

Peru and Morocco recorded the largest declines, each falling from 31,000 to 30,000 tonnes and from 6,000 to 5,000 tonnes, respectively (down 1,000 each; Morocco’s decline was about 17 percent). China (24,000), Belgium (1,000), and Russia (500) held their levels, while Japan's 2025 value is not reported.

The World total fell from 62,500 to 61,000 tonnes (down 1,500, about 2.4 percent). The 2024 figures in this release are revised from earlier values: Peru is revised up from 27,000 to 31,000 tonnes and Russia up from 200 to 500.

Methodology

The 2020-2023 figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national arsenic production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries, the USGS Historical Statistics for Mineral and Material Commodities, and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 where available; countries not reported individually keep their Our World in Data series. Values refer to mine production of arsenic, in tonnes, as a metallurgical byproduct/byproduct in the source, and 2025 figures are preliminary estimates. The source lists Japan (2024 only) and the United States (no value) in its world production table, which is why those cells are empty. The sum of the individually reported countries (60,500 tonnes) is slightly below the reported World total (61,000 tonnes); the source reports the World total as rounded. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
