The table lists 106 countries; 105 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 53,665,818 head. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

Ethiopia reported 1.41 times as many as Sudan: 10,803,079 head against 7,677,752, while Pakistan ranks third with 5,938,000 head, 1,739,752 head behind Sudan. The top two hold 34.4 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 5,938,000 and 5,042,154 head respectively.

Chad added 365,834 head (up 7.8 percent) and Ethiopia 230,407 head (up 2.2 percent), while China fell 161,000 head (down 11.0 percent).

For asses stocks, quantities are shown as whole head. The 2024 asses stocks ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the asses stocks data, zero means a reported nil or negligible stock; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For asses stocks changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Stocks record the standing herd, not a production flow.
