China's 160,259 tonnes top the table, with the Netherlands at 143,523 and Mexico at 117,824 close behind - a 16,736-tonne gap between first and second in a 1.46-million-tonne market.

The top three reporters accounted for 28.9 percent of the listed total, the top five 37.7 percent and the top ten 54.7 percent. Per capita, Cyprus's 36.09 grams per person per day leads Georgia at 23.46 grams.

2022 to 2023: Five Falls, Four Gains

Among the 164 reporters with reported values in both 2022 and 2023, the listed food supply decreased from 1,558,569 tonnes to 1,458,271 tonnes, a decline of 100,298 tonnes (6.4 percent). The two years share the same 164 reporters, with no reporter entering or leaving the comparison. Chile fell 66,582 tonnes (down 59.8 percent), Russia fell 63,103 tonnes (down 99.1 percent), Mexico fell 37,539 tonnes (down 24.2 percent), Thailand fell 32,601 tonnes (down 41.7 percent) and Romania fell 29,869 tonnes (down 100.0 percent).

On the gaining side, Argentina added 54,990 tonnes from a reported zero, Belgium added 33,805 tonnes (up 145.9 percent), Laos added 29,954 tonnes (up 214.0 percent) and the Netherlands added 20,583 tonnes (up 40.4 percent). Chile's fall from 111,402 to 44,820 tonnes against a net decline of 100,298 accounts for most of it, with Russia, Mexico, Thailand and Romania adding the next-largest falls.

2019 to 2023: Belgium Up From 4,198 Tonnes

For the 160 reporters with data in both 2019 and 2023, the listed food supply rose from 1,406,772 tonnes to 1,457,767 tonnes, a gain of 50,995 tonnes (3.6 percent). The 2019 universe includes 161 reporters with reported values, while the 2023 universe includes 164; Cuba, with 831 tonnes in 2019, had no reported 2023 value, while four reporters with a combined 505 tonnes entered, led by Afghanistan at 504 tonnes. The United States fell 55,337 tonnes (down 43.6 percent), Indonesia fell 51,295 tonnes (down 97.5 percent), Germany fell 34,095 tonnes (down 74.1 percent), Mexico fell 30,524 tonnes (down 20.6 percent) and Ukraine fell 31,143 tonnes (down 80.7 percent).

On the gaining side, Belgium added 52,783 tonnes from 4,198 tonnes, Chile added 39,117 tonnes (up 685.9 percent) and Georgia added 31,953 tonnes from 644 tonnes. Indonesia's fall from 52,595 tonnes to 1,300 removed nearly all of its 2019 supply.
