Fatty Liver Preparations Consumption by Country

Türkiye recorded the largest listed food supply of fatty liver preparations in 2023, at 12,198 tonnes, or about 38.8 percent of the reported total. Romania ranked second with 3,482 tonnes, followed by France at 2,858 tonnes. Estonia ranked fourth by volume at 2,310 tonnes and led the per-person ranking at 4.63 grams a day. The listed 2023 total was 31,414 tonnes, and 87 of the 98 country rows reported a value for that year. The figures come from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023 and represent food available for human consumption, not measured individual intake.

Fatty Liver Preparations Consumption

The three largest national totals, Türkiye, Romania and France, together accounted for about 59.0 percent of the listed 2023 total. Total tonnage shows the scale of the recorded national supply, while grams per person per day gives a population-adjusted comparison, so the two orderings can differ.

  • Russia recorded the largest listed decline by volume in the latest year.
  • Serbia lost more than half of its 2022 level.
  • Romania kept second place after a small increase.
  • France kept third place after a larger increase.

Recent Changes in Fatty Liver Preparations Supply

Russia recorded the largest listed year-on-year decline, losing 1,026 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 31.4 percent to 2,247 tonnes. Serbia lost 763.77 tonnes, down 50.9 percent, and Bulgaria shed 115.9 tonnes, down 80.8 percent. Mozambique added 76.06 tonnes, up 49.7 percent, Romania added 311 tonnes, up 9.8 percent, and France added 384 tonnes, up 15.5 percent. The 78 countries with a value in both years eased from 32,468 tonnes to 31,345 tonnes, down 1,123 tonnes, or 3.5 percent, with nine countries joining the comparison and none leaving it.

Five-Year Changes in Fatty Liver Preparations Supply

Between 2019 and 2023, the 69 countries with a value in both years fell from 40,684 tonnes to 31,350 tonnes, down 9,334 tonnes, or 22.9 percent. Türkiye lost 10,202 tonnes, down 45.5 percent, although its 2022 and 2023 values are identical, so that decline came earlier in the period. Serbia shed 815.77 tonnes, down 52.6 percent, and Poland fell from 650.33 tonnes to a reported zero. Mozambique added 193.07 tonnes from a 35.92-tonne base, France added 843 tonnes, up 41.8 percent, and Russia added 1,551 tonnes, up 223.0 percent. Eighteen countries joined this comparison and none left it.

Estonia Tops Fatty Liver Preparations per Person

Estonia recorded 4.63 grams a day in 2023, ahead of New Caledonia at 0.60 grams in second and Romania at 0.50 grams in third. Latvia sat fourth at 0.49 grams, while Türkiye placed fifth, level with Hungary at 0.38 grams. Estonia therefore ranked first per person even though its national total was far smaller than the Türkiye figure that leads the tonnage ranking.

What the Fatty Liver Preparations Data Measures

Fatty liver preparations available for human consumption are recorded in tonnes and in grams per person per day for each reporting country over 2019-2023. Annual totals sum reporting countries only. Total tonnage and the per-person measure describe different aspects of the same recorded supply, and neither one shows how much people actually ate.

Poland reported zero in 2023 after 650.33 tonnes in 2019, and Ghana, Iraq, Nigeria, Oman, Saint Lucia and Saudi Arabia ended 2023 at a reported zero after small 2022 values. Such movements are worth checking against the source: a reported zero is a recorded value, a blank cell is missing data, and neither one on its own explains what happened.

Methodology

The source is FAOSTAT Supply Utilization Accounts. Element 5141 reports food supply quantity in tonnes and element 665 reports it in grams per capita per day, for fatty liver preparations over 2019-2023. The 2023 listed total sums the country rows with a reported value for that year, excluding regional and aggregate records. Of the 98 country rows, 87 reported a value in 2023 and 74 of those were above zero. Comparisons between two years use only countries with values at both endpoints, and the country count and the two totals come from that shared set. Percentage changes use the earlier year as the base and are not calculated when that base is zero. Reported zeros are kept as values, blank cells are treated as missing, and values under 1,000 tonnes are shown to two decimals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which country recorded the largest fatty liver preparations supply in 2023?

Türkiye ranked first at 12,198 tonnes, about 38.8 percent of the listed 2023 total, ahead of Romania at 3,482 tonnes and France at 2,858 tonnes overall.

Why does Estonia rank above Türkiye per person?

Estonia recorded 4.63 grams per person per day against 0.38 grams for Türkiye. National totals and population-adjusted supply answer different questions, so the two rankings can diverge.

Did the listed Turkish supply decline between 2022 and 2023?

No. The reported value was 12,198 tonnes in both 2022 and 2023, so the latest year records no change at all for Türkiye in this table.

What does a reported zero mean in this dataset?

A reported zero is retained as a value, while a blank cell indicates missing data. Neither should be read automatically as proof that no related activity took place.

Does the FAO figure measure how much fatty liver people ate?

No. It measures food available for human consumption in the reference year, so it records national supply rather than individual intake, and the two are not the same.
