Fat of Poultry Consumption by Country
Hungary had the largest listed poultry-fat food supply in 2023, at 8,665 tonnes, accounting for 26.9 percent of the annual total. The Philippines ranked second at 8,043 tonnes, followed by Germany at 4,001 tonnes. Hungary also led per person, at 2.45 grams per day. The listed total was 32,225 tonnes across 94 reporting countries, of which 49 recorded nonzero values. The figures come from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023 and measure food available for human consumption, not the amount people actually ate.
The three largest national totals, Hungary, the Philippines and Germany, accounted for 64.3 percent of the listed 2023 supply. Hungary's lead was also visible per person, but the volume and per-capita rankings answer different questions: total tonnage measures the size of a country's listed supply, while the daily figure adjusts for population. Slovakia's listed poultry-fat supply fell by 2,119 tonnes from 2022 to 2023, a 51.3 percent decline to 2,011 tonnes. Malaysia recorded the next-largest drop among the examples listed, falling by 747.39 tonnes, or 52.9 percent. In contrast, Germany increased by 759 tonnes to 4,001 tonnes, while Vietnam rose from 50.09 to 241.63 tonnes. Across the 77 countries reporting values in both years, the total fell from 34,586 to 31,778 tonnes, a decrease of 2,808 tonnes, or 8.1 percent. Saint Lucia and South Korea first reported values in 2023. Across the 58 countries reporting values in both 2019 and 2023, the listed total fell from 36,717 to 31,531 tonnes, a decline of 5,186 tonnes, or 14.1 percent. Hungary accounted for much of the decrease, falling by 4,431 tonnes to 8,665 tonnes. Poland's reported value dropped from 2,533 tonnes to zero. Germany, by contrast, increased by 1,882 tonnes, while the Philippines added 2,598 tonnes. These contrasting movements show why the overall trend should be read alongside individual country results. Twelve countries reported values in 2019 but not in 2023, while twenty-one additional countries contributed 694 tonnes to the 2023 total. Hungary ranked first at 2.45 grams per person per day, ahead of Austria at 1.03 grams and Slovakia at 1.00 gram. Lithuania followed at 0.72 grams. Hungary therefore led both by total tonnage and by the population-adjusted measure, although the two rankings reflect different dimensions of the data. The figures describe poultry fat listed as available for human consumption, in tonnes and grams per person per day. They do not measure actual intake or show how the fat was used. National totals reflect the countries with reported data, so missing entries must not be interpreted as zero supply. A reported zero is retained as a reported value, while a blank indicates missing data. Poland's reported value fell from 2,533 tonnes in 2019 to zero in 2023. Such changes describe the published series; they should not automatically be interpreted as proof that a country stopped producing or consuming poultry fat. The source is FAOSTAT's Supply Utilization Accounts. Element 5141 provides food supply quantity in tonnes, while element 665 provides food supply quantity in grams per capita per day. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base and are not calculated when that base is zero. Comparisons include only countries with reported values at both endpoints. Reported zeroes are retained, blanks are treated as missing, and values below 1,000 tonnes are shown to two decimal places where applicable.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
Who ranked second per person?
Austria ranked second at 1.03 grams per person per day in 2023, followed by Slovakia at 1.00 gram in the same listed table that year, ahead of Lithuania in fourth.
What share of the listed supply came from Hungary?
Hungary accounted for 26.9 percent of the listed 2023 total in the same table. Hungary, the Philippines and Germany together accounted for 64.3 percent of the listed total that year.
Which country recorded the largest latest-year decline?
Slovakia's listed supply fell by 2,119 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, reaching 2,011 tonnes in the comparison group over the annual comparison period that year.
Do these figures show how much poultry fat people ate?
No. They measure the reported food available for human consumption in the reference year, not the quantity of poultry fat actually eaten by individual people in each year.
Why did the five-year total decline?
Across the 58 countries with reported values at both endpoints, the total fell by 5,186 tonnes over the period. Hungary's decrease of 4,431 tonnes accounted for much of that net decline.
