Rendered Poultry Fat Supply by Country

France reported 53,808 tonnes of rendered poultry fat food supply in 2023, 41.2 percent of the listed total. The Netherlands followed at 19,041 tonnes and Czechia at 9,036, while Lithuania ranked first per person at 3.14 grams a day. The 2023 figures total 130,533 tonnes across 114 countries, 104 with values, covering food available for human consumption from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts for 2019-2023.

The Netherlands placed second, with Czechia third at 9,036 and Germany fourth at 4,481. The top three held 62.7 percent of the annual listed food supply total. Total tonnage shows the scale of reported food supply, while grams per person per day adjusts the measure for population size.

The Netherlands Records the Largest Annual Decline

The Netherlands lost 9,575 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 33.5 percent to 19,041 tonnes. Chile lost 8,738 tonnes, down 71.9 percent to 3,412 tonnes. Germany shed 7,911 tonnes, down 63.9 percent. The Emirates added 929.67 tonnes, up 407.2 percent. Lithuania added 1,117 tonnes, up 51.9 percent. Türkiye added 1,193 tonnes, up 103.1 percent from 1,157 tonnes. The 103 countries with reported values in both years fell from 165,091 tonnes to 130,533 tonnes, down 34,558 tonnes, or 20.9 percent. Guyana first reported 0.10 tonnes in 2023.

France Drives the Five-Year Increase

Between 2019 and 2023, the 87 countries with reported values in both years rose from 69,806 tonnes to 130,389 tonnes, up 60,583 tonnes, or 86.8 percent. France added 38,910 tonnes, up 261.2 percent. The Netherlands added 15,224 tonnes, up 398.9 percent. Germany added 4,219 tonnes from 261.70 tonnes. Poland fell from 4,300 tonnes to a reported zero; the meaning of this zero should be checked against FAOSTAT records before interpretation. Belgium shed 1,874 tonnes, down 50.8 percent. Italy gave up 1,736 tonnes, down 50.1 percent. Seven countries with 71 tonnes in 2019 were absent from the comparison, while seventeen additional countries contributed 144 tonnes to the 2023 total.

Lithuania Leads per Person

Lithuania's 3.14 grams a day beat the Netherlands' 2.88 in second and Czechia's 2.29 in third. France sat fourth at 2.22 grams, with the Solomon Islands at 1.37 and Serbia at 1.36. France, first by volume, placed fourth per person.

What the Data Measures

Rendered poultry fat for human consumption is recorded in tonnes and daily grams per person for each reporting country over 2019-2023. The dataset includes 114 countries and areas that reported a value in at least one year; 104 have a reported value for 2023. Annual totals sum the reporting countries and areas for each year, excluding aggregate rows. Comparisons between years use only countries and areas with values at both endpoints. A reported zero is retained as zero, while a blank cell indicates missing data.

Methodology

FAO Supply Utilization Accounts report rendered poultry fat food supply in tonnes under element 5141 and in grams per person per day under element 665. This page covers the 2019-2023 period. Annual totals sum the reporting countries and areas with a value for the relevant year; aggregate rows are excluded. Year-to-year comparisons include only countries and areas with values in both comparison years. Percentage changes are calculated from the earlier year; percentage changes from a zero base are not reported. Reported zeros are retained, while blank cells indicate missing values. These figures describe food available for human consumption and should not be interpreted as direct measurements of the amount people actually ate.
