Buffalo Milk Ghee Supply by Country
India had the largest buffalo milk ghee supply in 2023, at 3,949,184 tonnes, accounting for 87.1 percent of the 4,534,437-tonne total reported by four countries. Pakistan ranked second at 563,238 tonnes, followed by Nepal at 19,858 tonnes and Bangladesh at 2,157 tonnes. India also led per-capita supply at 7.52 grams per person per day, ahead of Pakistan at 6.23 grams and Nepal at 1.83 grams. The figures come from FAO Supply Utilization Accounts and represent food available for human consumption, not the amount actually eaten.
The top two held 99.5 percent of the annual listed food supply total, and the top three 100.0 percent. India had the highest listed food supply, while India also had the highest per-capita food supply. Nepal lost 920 tonnes between 2022 and 2023, down 4.4 percent to 19,858 tonnes. India added 51,296 tonnes, up 1.3 percent. Pakistan added 16,270 tonnes, up 3.0 percent. Bangladesh added 152 tonnes, up 7.6 percent. The 4 countries present in both years rose from 4,467,639 tonnes to 4,534,437 tonnes, up 66,798 tonnes, or 1.5 percent, with no departures and no arrivals. Between 2019 and 2023, the same 4 countries added 395,351 tonnes, or 9.5 percent, rising off a 4,139,086-tonne base. India added 357,105 tonnes, up 9.9 percent. Pakistan added 35,914 tonnes, up 6.8 percent. Bangladesh added 1,938 tonnes, up from 219. Nepal added 394 tonnes, up 2.0 percent. Nobody left, and nobody arrived. India's 7.52 grams a day beat Pakistan's 6.23 in second and Nepal's 1.83 in third. Bangladesh trailed at 0.04 grams. India therefore leads the table both by total food supply and by food supply per person. The dataset covers buffalo milk ghee supply in four reporting countries from 2019 to 2023. India accounted for most of the reported tonnage in 2023, while India and Pakistan together represented about 99.5 percent of the total. The figures measure food available for human consumption, not actual intake. FAO Supply Utilization Accounts report food supply quantity in tonnes under element 5141 and food supply quantity in grams per capita per day under element 665. This dataset covers buffalo milk ghee for 2019-2023. The 2023 total is the sum of the four reporting countries. Percentage changes use the earlier year's value as the base; percentage change is not calculated from a zero base. Reported zeros are retained, while blanks are treated as missing. Values below 1,000 tonnes are shown to two decimal places where applicable.
