Hen Eggs in Shell; Fresh Production by Country

Brazil remained the fifth-largest producer of fresh hen eggs in 2024, adding 292,719 tonnes from 2023, while Indonesia increased production by 1,437,783 tonnes from 2020 to 2024. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Hen eggs in shell; fresh, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 176 countries; 172 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 89,341,610 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.

China produced 3.81 times as much as India: 30,856,800 tonnes against 8,101,885, while Indonesia ranks third with 6,579,353 tonnes, 1,522,532 tonnes behind India. The top two hold 43.6 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 6,579,353 and 6,469,047 tonnes respectively.

In 2024, China was the largest producer of fresh hen eggs in shell at 30,856,800 tonnes, followed by India at 8,101,885 tonnes and Indonesia at 6,579,353 tonnes. China alone accounted for 34.5 percent of the 89,341,610-tonne listed total, while the top three producers together accounted for 51.0 percent.

Hen Eggs in Shell; Fresh Production by Country in 2024

China was the largest fresh hen eggs producer in the 2024 listed data with 30,856,800 tonnes, followed by India with 8,101,885 tonnes and Indonesia with 6,579,353 tonnes. The United States ranked fourth with 6,469,047 tonnes.

China holds 34.5 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 51.0 percent of the 89,341,610-tonne listed total.

The common reporter universe (172 countries with data in both years) edged from 87,670,805 tonnes to 89,341,610 tonnes between 2023 and 2024, a change of 1,670,805 tonnes (1.9 percent). The totals listed for each year were 88,562,697 tonnes (175 reporters) and 89,341,610 tonnes (172 reporters); 3 countries reporting in 2023 (largest: Italy, 712,500 tonnes) did not report in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Brazil added 292,719 tonnes (up 8.6 percent) and India 249,447 tonnes (up 3.2 percent), while Indonesia added 248,551 tonnes (up 3.9 percent).

Indonesia Adds 1,437,783 Tonnes as Hen Eggs in Shell; Fresh Production Grows 7.3 Percent Among Common Reporters Since 2020

From 2020 to 2024 the common reporter universe (172 countries with data in both years) moved from 83,240,983 tonnes to 89,341,610 tonnes, a change of 6,100,627 tonnes (7.3 percent). The totals listed for each year were 84,142,671 tonnes (176 reporters) and 89,341,610 tonnes (172 reporters); 4 reporters present in 2020 (largest: Italy, 705,000 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while no new reporters joined. Indonesia added 1,437,783 tonnes (up 28.0 percent) and India 1,389,210 tonnes (up 20.7 percent), while China added 1,032,000 tonnes (up 3.5 percent).

Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Hen eggs in shell; fresh, 2020-2024. For fresh hen eggs production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 fresh hen eggs production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the fresh hen eggs production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For fresh hen eggs production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.
