Maize (Corn) Exports by Country

Four countries hold more than four-fifths of reported maize exports while the fifth holds just 2.0 percent. The figures aggregate FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral records for item Maize (corn), 2020-2024, pairing export quantity in tonnes with export value in current US dollars. The table lists 143 countries; 102 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 listed quantity total is about 199.4 million tonnes. Countries appear below ordered by 2024 listed quantity, from largest to smallest.

Maize (Corn) Exports by Country in 2024

The United States was the largest maize exporter in the 2024 listed data with 62,588,839 tonnes, followed by Brazil with 39,769,658 tonnes, Argentina with 31,958,579 tonnes and Ukraine with 29,616,861 tonnes. France ranked fifth with 4,064,104 tonnes, ahead of South Africa (3,463,294 tonnes), Poland (3,341,619 tonnes), Romania (2,885,754 tonnes), Myanmar (2,760,606 tonnes) and Canada (2,364,530 tonnes). The United States also led on export value at 14,341,483,000 US dollars, with the top five in the same order on both measures.

The United States added 16,645,278 tonnes between 2023 and 2024 while Brazil lost 16,122,493 tonnes — a gain worth 103 percent of Brazil's loss. The two moves nearly cancel in the common-universe total, which is why it rose only 2.8 percent despite each of the two largest traders shifting by about sixteen million tonnes. The table records magnitudes only; it does not show whether any shipment diverted from one origin to another.

The top three hold 67.4 percent of the listed 2024 total and the top four 82.2 percent; the top five reach 84.3 percent and the top ten 91.7 percent, with the United States exporting about 1.57 times as much as Brazil. The ranking runs through the United States, Brazil and Argentina in the Americas, with Paraguay (1,895,468 tonnes) further down. Europe's exporters — Ukraine, France, Poland, Romania, Hungary (2,188,396 tonnes) and Serbia (2,148,249 tonnes) — follow, while South Africa, Myanmar and Pakistan (1,231,789 tonnes) follow from Africa and Asia. Türkiye exported 703,957 tonnes.

Maize (Corn) Export Swings Between 2023 and 2024

Between 2023 and 2024, the common reporter universe (96 countries with data in both years) rose from 193,947,585 tonnes to 199,332,490 tonnes, a change of 5,384,905 tonnes (2.8 percent). The totals listed for each year were 194,530,079 tonnes (120 reporters) and 199,351,533 tonnes (102 reporters), so composition effects are limited. Behind the two giants, Ukraine added 3,250,741 tonnes (up 12.3 percent), Myanmar 1,537,676 tonnes (up 125.7 percent) and Serbia 1,098,233 tonnes (up 104.6 percent). Romania fell 2,465,569 tonnes (down 46.1 percent), Paraguay 1,894,325 tonnes (down 50.0 percent) and India 1,810,342 tonnes (down 78.3 percent).

Where Maize (Corn) Exports Stood in 2024 Versus 2020

Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (96 countries with data in both years) rose from 189,812,618 tonnes to 199,351,253 tonnes, a change of 9,538,635 tonnes (5.0 percent). The totals listed for each year were 192,782,016 tonnes (123 reporters) and 199,351,533 tonnes (102 reporters); 27 countries reporting in 2020 (about 3.0 million tonnes combined, led by Russia with 2,289,269 tonnes) did not report in 2024. The United States added 10,750,474 tonnes (up 20.7 percent), Brazil 5,354,919 tonnes (up 15.6 percent) and Poland 1,851,241 tonnes (up 124.2 percent). Argentina fell 4,922,871 tonnes (down 13.3 percent), Romania 2,765,288 tonnes (down 48.9 percent) and Hungary 1,852,106 tonnes (down 45.8 percent).

Methodology

Reporter-year totals in this table add up FAO Detailed Trade Matrix bilateral flows for item Maize (corn), export quantity and export value, 2020-2024. In this maize (corn) exports dataset, sub-1,000-tonne quantities use two decimals, larger quantities use whole tonnes, and values are full current US dollars without inflation adjustment. Ranking and shares rest on 2024 listed quantities. Zero indicates a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell indicates nothing reported, and the two never stand in for each other. Only countries reporting quantities in both compared years enter change math, while reporters that appear or drop out are tallied separately. Partner-based gap filling and food-aid additions may be present, and unreconciled bilateral pairs let an export entry disagree with its mirror import.
