Mica Production by Country
Mica production by country measures how much mica each country mines, expressed in tonnes. The figures refer to mine production of scrap and flake mica, in line with the underlying sources. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for the earlier years (2019-2023), built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table below lists 21 countries with recorded production during the period. Individual 2025 estimates are available for 10 countries, which produced a combined 311,500 tonnes in 2025; together with the "Other countries" value of 39,000 tonnes, this totals 350,500 tonnes, slightly above the reported World total of 350,000 tonnes in the source. The remaining countries carry their latest available values from 2023 or earlier.
Countries With the Largest Mica Production in 2025
China produced the most mica in 2025 with 85,000 tonnes. Madagascar ranked second with 70,000, followed by Finland (57,000), the United States (26,000), South Korea (15,000), France (14,000), Canada (14,000), India (13,000), Türkiye (9,500), and Spain (8,000).
Mica Production by Country
China alone accounted for about 24 percent of the World total in 2025, and China and Madagascar together for about 44 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 61 percent. China's output was about 1.2 times that of Madagascar. Four countries produced more than 20,000 tonnes in 2025.
Mica Production Around the World
In Asia, China (85,000) leads, ahead of South Korea (15,000) and India (13,000). In Africa, Madagascar (70,000) is the largest producer; Morocco (20,000, 2023) retains its last available value.
In Europe, Finland (57,000) leads, ahead of France (14,000), Türkiye (9,500), and Spain (8,000); Russia (4,500, 2023) retains its last available value. In North America, the United States (26,000) leads, ahead of Canada (14,000). Brazil (2,950, 2023) and Argentina (0, 2019) retain the older values in South America, but neither has a 2024 or 2025 estimate in the source. No Oceania producer is listed in this dataset.
Largest Changes in Mica Production, 2024-2025
The United States recorded the largest increase, rising from 24,000 tonnes in 2024 to 26,000 in 2025 (up 2,000, about 8 percent). Finland rose from 56,900 to 57,000 (up 100).
Madagascar recorded the largest decline, falling from 90,000 to 70,000 tonnes (down 20,000, about 22 percent). South Korea fell from 21,000 to 15,000 (down 6,000, about 29 percent), India by 1,000, and Türkiye by 140. China (85,000), France (14,000), Canada (14,000), and Spain (8,000) held their levels.
The World total fell from 376,000 to 350,000 tonnes (down 26,000, about 6.9 percent).
The 2024 figures in this release are revised from earlier values, most notably Finland (revised up from 7,108 to 56,900 tonnes), India (up from 1,000 to 14,000), Madagascar (up from 62,900 to 90,000), and the United States (down from 40,000 to 24,000).

Methodology
The earlier figures come from Our World in Data, which compiles national mica production figures from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries, the USGS Historical Statistics for Mineral and Material Commodities, and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with major processing by Our World in Data; USGS data is prioritized, with BGS data used to supplement it. The earlier series covers 2019-2023. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 where available; countries not reported individually keep their latest available Our World in Data values from 2023 or earlier. Values refer to mine production of scrap and flake mica, in tonnes; sheet mica production is reported separately in the source and is not included here (its world total is not available). The source reports production in metric tons for 2024-2025. The sum of individually reported country estimates does not equal the reported World total because the source applies rounding and other adjustments at the country and World levels. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
