Motor Gasoline Production by Country
Motor gasoline production by country measures finished motor gasoline produced for each country, in million barrels per day (Mb/d). This is a historical series: the source reports values for 2009 to 2014 only, with no recent data, so it cannot be compared with current consumption figures. The statistics are based on the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) International Energy Statistics. The table covers 111 countries, with 111 reported 2014 values. The world total stood at 23.7996 Mb/d in 2014, up from 22.9563 Mb/d in 2013.
The United States (9.5710 Mb/d) produced about 3.7 times as much as China (2.5775 Mb/d), the second-largest producer in 2014. Japan (0.9205 Mb/d), Russia (0.9099 Mb/d) and India (0.7554 Mb/d) completed the top five. Empty means no reported value, not zero. The United States accounted for about 40.2% of the world total in 2014. The top two together held about 51.0%, the top three about 54.9%, the top five about 61.9%, and the top ten about 72.5%. The United States recorded the largest increase in absolute terms, rising from 9.2340 to 9.5710 Mb/d (+0.3370 Mb/d, about 3.6%). The world total rose from 22.9563 to 23.7996 Mb/d (+0.8433 Mb/d, about 3.7%). The largest decline among reported pairs was the United Kingdom, falling from 0.4068 to 0.3637 Mb/d (-0.0431 Mb/d, about 10.6%). China grew faster than the United States in percentage terms from 2013 to 2014, rising from 2.2982 to 2.5775 Mb/d (+12.2%), while the United States added the most in absolute terms (+0.3370 Mb/d). Japan (-1.4%) and Russia (-1.1%) both edged down. The sharpest percentage fall among larger producers belonged to the United Kingdom (-10.6%). Reported world values were 22.1455 Mb/d in 2009 and 23.7996 Mb/d in 2014, an increase of about 7.5%, with growth in every year. The figures describe a closed historical window and cannot be extended to the present. The figures show the change over time but do not explain its causes. Because this series ends in 2014, its rankings describe where motor gasoline was produced in that year — not where production stands today. The United States held a 40.2% share of world production in 2014, reflecting the refining geography of that period. This page should be read as an archive of where gasoline was made in 2009-2014, not as a guide to current markets. The statistics are based on the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) International Energy Statistics. Values represent annual finished motor gasoline production in million barrels per day (Mb/d). This is a discontinued historical series covering 2009 to 2014; no values are reported after 2014. Where no value is available, the cell is left empty. A value of 0 indicates that the source reports zero. The sum of the countries listed on this page may not equal the reported world total because the country-level data presented here do not necessarily represent the complete set of values used for the world total. This page covers motor gasoline production only and does not include consumption or other fuels, which are reported separately in the source.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
Which countries produced the most motor gasoline in 2014?
The United States (9.5710 Mb/d), China (2.5775 Mb/d) and Japan (0.9205 Mb/d) reported the largest 2014 values, followed by Russia (0.9099 Mb/d) and India (0.7554 Mb/d).
Why does this series end in 2014?
The source reports values for 2009 to 2014 only. No values are reported after 2014, so the table cannot be extended to the present.
Did world production grow over this period?
Reported world production rose from 22.1455 Mb/d in 2009 to 23.7996 Mb/d in 2014, about 7.5%, with increases in every year. The source does not explain the causes.
Is this comparable with current consumption data?
No. Production and consumption are different measures, and the years do not overlap with current series. This page describes 2009-2014 production only.
Data Disclaimer: Projected data (future years) are estimates based on mathematical models. Actual values may differ. Learn about our methodology →
