Natural Honey Production by Country
China remained the largest natural honey producer in 2024, while India climbed to second with 146,000 tonnes after increasing its output by 41,000 tonnes from the previous year. The figures below reproduce FAO Crops and Livestock Products records for item Natural honey, 2020-2024, reporting production quantity in tonnes. The table lists 130 countries; 121 reported a 2024 quantity, and the 2024 annual listed total is 1,842,263 tonnes. The 2024 country list runs from the largest listed quantity to the smallest.
China was the largest listed natural honey producer in 2024 with 444,800 tonnes, followed by India with 146,000 tonnes and Türkiye with 95,492 tonnes. The 121 countries reporting a 2024 quantity recorded 1,842,263 tonnes in total, with China accounting for 24.1 percent of the listed production. India increased its reported production by 110.3 percent between 2020 and 2024.
China produced 3.05 times as much as India: 444,800 tonnes against 146,000, while Türkiye ranks third with 95,492 tonnes, 50,508 tonnes behind India. The top two hold 32.1 percent of the listed total, with third and fourth at 95,492 and 85,960 tonnes respectively. China was the largest natural honey producer in the 2024 listed data with 444,800 tonnes, followed by India with 146,000 tonnes and Türkiye with 95,492 tonnes. Ethiopia ranked fourth with 85,960 tonnes. China holds 24.1 percent of the listed 2024 total. The top three together hold 37.3 percent of the 1,842,263-tonne listed total. From 2023 to 2024 the common reporter universe (120 countries with data in both years) moved from 1,811,760 tonnes to 1,841,169 tonnes, a change of 29,409 tonnes (1.6 percent). The totals listed for each year were 1,892,652 tonnes (126 reporters) and 1,842,263 tonnes (121 reporters); 6 countries reporting in 2023 (largest: Romania, 31,541 tonnes) did not report in 2024, while 1 new reporter added 1,094 tonnes (Slovenia). India added 41,000 tonnes (up 39.0 percent), while Türkiye fell 19,394 tonnes (down 16.9 percent) and China 18,700 tonnes (down 4.0 percent). Between 2020 and 2024, the common reporter universe (120 countries with data in both years) rose from 1,795,944 tonnes to 1,842,262 tonnes, a change of 46,318 tonnes (2.6 percent). The totals listed for each year were 1,884,048 tonnes (128 reporters) and 1,842,263 tonnes (121 reporters); 8 reporters present in 2020 (largest: Romania, 30,714 tonnes) are absent in 2024, while 1 new reporter added 1.51 tonnes (Vanuatu). India added 76,562 tonnes (up 110.3 percent), more than doubling from 69,438 tonnes, while Ethiopia fell 43,341 tonnes (down 33.5 percent) and Brazil added 14,821 tonnes (up 28.2 percent). Percentage changes use the corresponding value in the earlier year as the base. Yearly totals sum FAO Crops and Livestock Products production quantity (Element 5510) for item Natural honey, 2020-2024. For natural honey production, quantities below 1,000 tonnes retain two decimals and larger quantities are shown as whole tonnes. The 2024 natural honey production ranking and shares use 2024 listed quantities. In the natural honey production data, zero means a reported nil or negligible flow; an empty cell means no quantity was reported. For natural honey production changes, only countries with quantities in both endpoint years enter the arithmetic. Production quantities are reported to FAO by national statistical sources.

Methodology
Frequently Asked Questions
How did India more than double its production since 2020?
India rose from 69,438 tonnes in 2020 to 146,000 tonnes in 2024, a change of 76,562 tonnes (up 110.3 percent). India reported production in both years, so the change is included in the common-reporter calculation.
Which 2020 reporters are gone by 2024?
Eight, led by Romania with 30,714 tonnes, Greece with 22,807 tonnes and Hungary with 14,000 tonnes. Blank cells mean not reported rather than zero, so the group sits outside the 2020-2024 change universe while shaping the 2020 listed total.
Why did Ethiopia fall by a third since 2020?
Ethiopia fell from 129,301 tonnes in 2020 to 85,960 tonnes in 2024, a change of -43,341 tonnes (down 33.5 percent). Ethiopia reports in both years, so the fall sits inside the change universe.
