The figures refer to ammonia production in terms of fixed nitrogen content, as reported in the underlying sources. The statistics combine an Our World in Data series for the earlier years (2020-2024), built from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries and the BGS World Mineral Statistics, with 2024 and 2025 estimates taken directly from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The table covers 23 countries included in the underlying data during the period. USGS reports 2025 estimates for 22 countries, which produced a combined 144,300,000 tonnes in 2025; together with the "Other countries" value of 12,000,000 tonnes, this totals 156,300,000 tonnes, which is 3,700,000 tonnes below the reported World total of 160,000,000 tonnes in the source. Ukraine keeps its 2021 value (2,170,000 tonnes).
Largest Nitrogen-Producing Countries in 2025
China produced the most fixed nitrogen in 2025 with 49,000,000 tonnes. India ranked second with 15,000,000, followed by Russia (15,000,000), the United States (14,000,000), Indonesia (6,000,000), Saudi Arabia (5,200,000), Iran (4,800,000), Egypt (4,000,000), Canada (3,800,000), and Pakistan (3,800,000).

China alone accounted for about 31 percent of the World total in 2025, and China and India together for about 40 percent; the top three countries accounted for about 49 percent. China's output was about 3.3 times that of India. Four countries produced at least 10 million tonnes in 2025.
Nitrogen Production Around the World
In Asia, China (49,000,000) leads by a wide margin, ahead of India (15,000,000), Indonesia (6,000,000), and Pakistan (3,800,000); Malaysia (1,500,000), Vietnam (1,400,000), and Uzbekistan (1,300,000) follow. In the Middle East, Saudi Arabia (5,200,000) leads, ahead of Iran (4,800,000), Qatar (3,000,000), and Oman (2,000,000).
In Europe, Russia (15,000,000) is the largest producer, ahead of Germany (2,000,000), the Netherlands (2,000,000), and Poland (1,700,000); Ukraine (2,170,000, 2021) retains an older value. In Africa, Egypt (4,000,000) leads, ahead of Algeria (2,000,000) and Nigeria (2,000,000). In North America, the United States (14,000,000) leads, ahead of Canada (3,800,000); Trinidad and Tobago (3,300,000) is a Caribbean producer. In Oceania, Australia (1,500,000) is the only listed producer.
Largest Changes in Nitrogen Production, 2024-2025
The United States recorded the largest increase, rising from 13,600,000 tonnes in 2024 to 14,000,000 in 2025 (up 400,000, about 3 percent). Indonesia rose from 5,700,000 to 6,000,000 (up 300,000, about 5 percent), Egypt by 100,000, and Uzbekistan by 100,000. China (49,000,000), India (15,000,000), Russia (15,000,000), Saudi Arabia (5,200,000), Iran (4,800,000), Canada (3,800,000), Pakistan (3,800,000), Algeria (2,000,000), Nigeria (2,000,000), Oman (2,000,000), Poland (1,700,000), Australia (1,500,000), and Malaysia (1,500,000) held their levels.
The largest decline came from Germany, falling from 2,220,000 to 2,000,000 tonnes (down 220,000, about 10 percent). Trinidad and Tobago fell from 3,350,000 to 3,300,000 (down 50,000), Qatar from 3,040,000 to 3,000,000 (down 40,000), the Netherlands by 100,000, and Vietnam by 40,000.
The World total rose from 156,000,000 to 160,000,000 tonnes (up 4,000,000, about 2.6 percent); the World total is reported separately from the country figures in the source.
Where the earlier series provided a 2024 value, the revisions are visible: China was revised up from 47,000,000 to 49,000,000 tonnes, Egypt down from 5,000,000 to 3,900,000, Russia up from 14,000,000 to 15,000,000, Canada up from 3,600,000 to 3,800,000, and Germany up from 1,700,000 to 2,220,000.

The earlier series covers 2020-2024. The 2024 and 2025 figures are estimates from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026 where available; Ukraine keeps its earlier value. Values refer to ammonia production in terms of fixed nitrogen content, in tonnes, and 2025 figures are preliminary estimates from the source. The source reports production in thousand-ton units for 2024-2025; values here are expressed in tonnes. The sum of individually reported country estimates does not equal the reported World total because the source applies rounding and other adjustments at the country and World levels. In the table, a zero reflects no production, while an empty cell means that no value was reported.
