Oil of Palm Kernel Consumption by Country

Indonesia held 862,676 tonnes of palm kernel oil supply in 2023, 54.2 percent of the 1,592,843-tonne total. Malaysia came second and China third. Per person, Malaysia led, ahead of Indonesia, while China managed 0.25. Saudi Arabia's five-year fall and Iran's near-disappearance reshaped the table. All figures count food available for human consumption, not actual intake.

Palm Kernel Oil: Key Findings

Indonesia had the largest palm kernel oil food supply in 2023 at 862,676 tonnes, accounting for 54.2% of the reported total. Malaysia ranked first on a per-person basis at 12.09 grams per person per day, while Indonesia ranked second at 8.41 grams. China was third by total supply at 128,751 tonnes and recorded 0.25 grams per person per day. The figures measure food available for human consumption, not actual food intake.

Nigeria placed fourth at 96,818 tonnes and Ivory Coast fifth at 39,615, with Colombia sixth (29,989), Egypt seventh (25,758) and the Philippines eighth (24,993). The top three held 72.0 percent of the total, and Indonesia stood 5.57 times Malaysia. Per person, Honduras (5.92) and Sierra Leone (5.05) followed Malaysia, with Gabon at 4.70.

Palm Kernel Oil: Volume vs. Per Person

• Indonesia's 2023 supply exceeded Malaysia's by more than five times.

Palm Kernel Oil Supply in 2023

Across the 88 countries with values in both 2022 and 2023, supply rose 12.2 percent from 1,419,154 tonnes, a gain of 173,121 tonnes. Indonesia added 76,001 tonnes (9.7 percent up) while China added 57,969 (81.9 percent up). Malaysia added 27,164 tonnes and Egypt 18,648. South Africa shed 5,975 tonnes and Türkiye 5,853. Two countries entered with 568 tonnes.

Five Years of Palm Kernel Oil

Among the 82 countries reporting in both 2019 and 2023, the total climbed 4.2 percent from 1,528,395 tonnes, a gain of 63,833 tonnes. Indonesia added 149,188 tonnes, more than twice the net rise, while Nigeria's 31,652-tonne fall offset part of it. Saudi Arabia shed 26,031 tonnes and Iran 22,551. Eight countries entered with 616 tonnes between them while six left with 169.

Palm Kernel Oil Per Person

Malaysia's 12.09 grams a day led the per-person table, ahead of Indonesia at 8.41 and Honduras at 5.92. Sierra Leone (5.05) and Gabon (4.70) followed. Indonesia, first by a wide margin on volume, ranked second per person, while China sat far down at 0.25 grams.

Where Palm Kernel Oil Moved

China's path ran from 120,296 tonnes in 2021 down to 70,782 in 2022 and back to 128,751 in 2023. Iran moved the other way, from 23,700 tonnes in 2019 to 1,149 in 2023. Colombia swung from 127,369 tonnes in 2021 to 20,000 in 2022 before recovering to 29,989.

For oil of palm kernel, tonnage follows element 5141 and daily grams follow element 665 across 2019 to 2023. A change is measured from the earlier year; none is stated from a zero base. Only countries present in both compared years enter a change. A reported zero is not a blank, and blanks never stand in for zeros. The file holds 97 countries after removing World, regional and aggregate rows; 90 of them carry 2023 values.
